As a woman I am extremely aware the only reason I have rights is because women before me got mouthy, organized, and made herself inconvenient. Thats why I see women who uphold the patriarchy as traitors
The eternal sunshine tour has officially ended. She never cancelled a show, she never collapsed on stage, she never said anything problematic, she never lip synced, she was never out of breath. The only issues were some rescheduling and a minor foot injury, anyone that said she couldn't do the tour is delusional. She had the time of her life.
In âpetalâ, Ariana Grande plays Pepper, a woman auditioning for a role. Despite repeatedly changing her appearance and proving her talent, she keeps getting rejected.
The critics judging her tell her sheâs ânot good enoughâ, âboringâ, lacks âsex appealâ, should âget some work doneâ, âchange her hairstyleâ, and that sheâs âdesperateâ. But when she changes herself to meet those expectations, getting breast implants, wearing more makeup⊠they suddenly tell her sheâs had âtoo much work doneâ, is âdistractingâ, and wears âtoo much makeupâ. Eventually, she kills them.
This mirrors what Ariana herself has experienced throughout her career. She constantly reinvents herself, explores new artistic directions, and changes both musically and visually, yet it never seems to be enough. Sheâs constantly criticized and called some of the most awful things, often disguised as âhumorâ or âconcernâ. Even parts of her own fanbase, people who should support her, have turned against her multiple times.
This isnât just Arianaâs plea to stop being dissected and scrutinized until she loses herself. Itâs also a broader commentary on the impossible standards placed on women.
Theyâre expected to be beautiful, quiet, composed and accommodating, even while being constantly judged. And when they finally react to that pressure, theyâre depicted as âcrazyâ, âdramaticâ or âoverreactingâ. The reality is that very few people ever stop to consider how they actually feel.
Maybe the problem was never Ariana. Maybe it was the impossible standards we expected her to live up to.
Happy 33rd birthday to the incredible Ariana Grande-Butera.

Ariana Grande is expanding her philanthropic efforts with the launch of the Brighter Days Ahead Foundation, focusing on youth mental health, arts education and community support causes.
âI am beyond excited to finally announce the Brighter Days Ahead Foundation,â said Grande in a statement. âOur mission is to support, protect, and provide resources for our vulnerable friends in need. Through four different funds, we will be supporting handfuls of incredible organizations that provide the safe space and care that is desperately needed by so many right now. It has been my privilege to be able to support these causes on my own over the years, and Iâm grateful to now be able to expand that reach and amplify the life-saving work that these organizations do through the Brighter Days Ahead Foundation.â
