Today Chandra is studying IC 2431 — a triple galaxy merger in progress! As the galaxies blend together, much of the activity is hidden behind dense clouds of dust for optical telescopes. X-rays pierce through the cloudy veil however, allowing us to explore what's going on inside.
A black hole located 230 million light-years away from Earth, at the centre of a galaxy named J0437+2456 and approximately three million times larger that our Sun - was found to be moving at a speed of 110,000 miles per hour.
