Joburg owes Eskom R5.2 billion. That is what governance under an ANC and PA coalition looks like.
The City of Cape Town owes Eskom nothing.

Four separate applications to the High Court were made to interdict this land auction this week. All 4 were dismissed, with costs.
Today the auction went ahead. Hundreds of millions were raised, all of which will be spent on essential infrastructure in Cape Town, much of it in lower income communities. Many new homes will be built on that land, providing much needed new housing supply and easing prices.
The attempts to stop this are all political of course (including, sadly, the SAHRC) - we do these land auctions often, they’ve never tried to stop them before. But we’re in silly season now, so we expect much silliness.
But there is a more important point at play here. Their opposition is rooted in a refusal to accept that we have a different understanding to them of the proper job of government.
In their view, everything must be owned by the state. Every failing state company, every derelict building, every fallow asset - it must stay just that way forever, and none of it can be sold, no matter how derelict, loss-making or under-utilised it is.
In our view, the proper role of the government is not to own everything. It is to stop standing in the way of investment and growth, and to help unlock it. By freeing up under-utilised land, we allow these dead assets to be brought to life - with new housing supply, new investment, and new jobs. That in turn helps spur other investment, and so the economy grows, and delivers more people out of poverty.
Cape Town is not run by the ANC. We have a mandate to do things differently here. We do not subscribe to the ANC’s view of the state as the solver of every problem. How has that worked in reality?
The DA sees the state as a facilitator of a growing economy that lifts more people out of poverty and into work. That is the only way we will build a successful, working South Africa.
Beware of those claiming to speak for the poor, but wanting to keep people poor and keep everything in the hands of the state.

I've requested an update from National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola regarding the ongoing internal investigation following the Thulare Judgement from March 2022, which raised serious concerns about gang infiltration within the South African Police Service in the Western Cape.
Despite assurances last year, this investigation has dragged on, and the persistent violence in the Cape Flats seems to confirm the fears highlighted in the judgement.
This past weekend saw multiple incidents of murder and attempted murder in the Cape Flats, underscoring the dire need for a coordinated, proactive, and intelligence-led approach from SAPS.
The current methods being employed are simply not enough. We must finalize this investigation and prosecute any officers found colluding with gangs to restore hope and safety to the community.
It's also troubling that SAPS is operating without a clear intelligence-led strategy and conducting minimal proactive operations, creating an environment ripe for criminal activity.
This negligence undermines the work of ethical officers and directly impacts their morale. We need urgent plans to disrupt the crime wave in the area.
Furthermore, the brutal killing of six people in Umlazi township this weekend is a stark reminder of the issue of illegal firearms, which are involved in the majority of murders in the country.
SAPS management must intensify efforts to remove these weapons from our streets and ensure those responsible for these heinous crimes are brought to justice.
After Dada Morero was elected mayor for the City of Jhb, he announced his MMC's. Exactly the same old ones who collapsed the city. Nothing new. No ideas. Just SHAMELESS recycling. Don't expect any major changes in the City of Jhb, just expect corruption to increase.

Extortion rackets have held businesses in Cape Town’s CBD to ransom for years. One establishment, after years of refusing to pay up, has now opted to close its doors and fight against the so-called protection mafia. But it's easier said than done as the roots of this extortion scheme runs deep into the city's underworld. #Newzroom405's @MichelleL_Craig reports from the city's party scene, Long Street, to unravel this story.

More than 180 infrastructure and construction projects, estimated to be worth R63 billion, have faced extortion from "construction mafia" across South Africa. This is according to Association of Construction Project Managers president Anthony Afordofe.
President Cyril Ramaphosa , police minister Senzo Mchunu, Minister of Public Works Dean Macpherson , KZN Premier Thami Ntuli and KZN MEC of Public Works
Martin Meyer have all DECLARED WAR on these construction mafia.
The EFF and MK Party have rejected the notion of construction mafia and said they should be called "business forums" and are legitimate business.
Just imagine what would happen to South Africa if we had parties like MK and EFF in the GNU. We would immediately become a full on criminal network.
Also the MK Party and EFF do not hide that they are funded by the criminal construction mafia.
MEDIA STATEMENT: SWIFT ACTION AGAINST ALLEGED RAPIST A STANDARD FOR POLICING GBV CASES
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Mr Ian Cameron has lauded the South African Police Service’s Atlantis Visible Policing Unit and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for the swift action taken to apprehend an alleged rapist in the Atlantis area in the Western Cape. The Chairperson has highlighted that the swift action by members of the units led to the arrest of the perpetrator and have set the standard for action required from the SAPS if it is to win the fight against the scourge of gender-based violence in the country. “The dedication displayed by Constable October and Constable Vigeland from Atlantis VISPOL, and Constable Julies from Cape Town FCS is truly remarkable. Their swift action and determination represent the best that is needed to reclaim the credibility of SAPS and highlights what is needed in the fight against crime and criminality in the country,” Mr Cameron said. It is reported that a victim led the SAPS to a remote farm where she was held captive and repeatedly raped for approximately four months before she was able to escape. “The Portfolio Committee on Police has emphasised that members of SAPS must take immediate action to investigate and arrest perpetrators of GBV cases and must treat the victims with compassion and empathy. This is the standard we expect, and the SAPS members have shown that this can be done,” Mr Cameron emphasised. The Chairperson has called for a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted for this heinous crime. “I have on behalf of the committee dispatched a letter to the National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, to highlight our appreciation for the work of the three SAPS members and have highlighted the good standard that these officers have upheld,” Mr Cameron said. Mr Cameron has also called for psycho-social assistance for the victim to assist them to deal with this ordeal.
