I just want to re-retweet this post from March 2020 that was so prescient. We know what the impacts of pandemics and health emergencies will be-this underlines the need to be prepared with response and recovery strategies in advance of health emergencies. #PandemicPreparedness
As our friends and colleagues brave the font lines, we must also get ready for a series of aftershocks. It's very hard to plan this far ahead while we're in survival mode. We must prepare early and strategize our response to the collateral damage of #COVID19
Delighted to have had the chance to hear more about the amazing research happening @Sunnybrook and other research centres in Canada, tour the labs and meet the impressive post-docs advancing our understanding of zoonotic diseases in Canada.
Today, we welcomed MP @Rob_Oliphant & Dr. @Marisa_Creatore from @CIHR_IRSC to announce a $6.35M investment from the Government of Canada to support research on #mpox & other zoonotic viruses. Congratulations to Sunnybrook scientists Drs. Mubareka & Kozak & all the research teams.
Thanks to #GoC investment the @CIHR_IRSC Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies (CRPPHE) was able to fund 11 interdisciplinary research teams from across Canada to tackle MPox and other zoonotic threats to health #Mpox@Sunnybrook@Rob_Oliphant
Today, the #GoC announced $6.35M in funding to aid the Canadian and global fight against #mpox and zoonotic diseases, which can pose a health risk to Canadians. This investment makes Canada a research leader in zoonotic diseases.
Congratulations to @AngelaMCheung and the excellent @LongCOVIDWebCA team funded through this @CIHR_IRSC investment! The important work of this research network will improve the health of individuals, families and communities suffering from the long-term impacts of COVID-19.

it would be very difficult to get the public to do anything to try to limit or control transmission. » Building trust in science and public health needs to be a focus of research/work and an investment priority. #scicomms#PandemicPreparedness#Research
Most worrisome takeaway from this article: »the Covid-19 experience, rather than strengthening our response capacity, has eroded political support…If we did have another pandemic right now…
The latest developments with #H5N1#birdflu are unsettling. But humans & this virus, we have history.
I asked a number of people who've been studying it, some for a quarter century, on their thoughts about where things stand now. https://t.co/D7d9Wtt37S
Proud to announce the CIHR Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies is sponsoring a Chair in Behavioural Sciences - an important area of research for preventing and responding to emergencies! Check it out! @CIHR_IRSC@GovCanHealth
We are very excited to launch a new #SciComm project!
We were going to show some live footage of our Comms team’s home/office happy dances, but apparently, that would be “weird” and “off-putting.”
So let’s talk about #HealthResearchExplained instead!
