@Teddytwitt@Mick_O_Keeffe Look at any of the major western democracies and what has happened to them in the last 10-15 years and you will see why. I used to believe as you do, the last decade or so has shown me how wrong I was. Cultures aren’t compatible. People don’t try to fit in.
@dom_lucre My god, could you have tortured the English language any more with that sentence? I think there might be a bit of it still alive in a corner somewhere.
To Muslims who are thinking about living in Japan.
Let me be honest with you.
Japan’s daily life was not built around your faith.
Ramen often uses pork broth.
Convenience store food often contains pork-derived ingredients.
Summer brings shrine festivals.
New Year means a visit to a shrine.
When someone dies, cremation is the norm.
This is not harassment.
This is simply the everyday life that Japanese people have built over a long period of time.
Of course, your faith should be respected.
But in the same way, Japanese culture and customs should also be respected.
Before coming here and saying “I want this changed,”
please think carefully about whether this country truly fits you.
Japan does not exist to reject anyone.
But it also does not exist to be remade for someone else’s convenience.
I’m just an ordinary Japanese citizen.
Japan belongs to the Japanese people.
@Kripto_Jo You’re making it sound like something that recently changed. It isn’t.
“No longer seen as…” —> was never seen as — excellent service has always been the expected norm.
@japanarab10@CastingOutNines@SquishyAvo@MattooShashank Every 5 years — so four times in 20 years — is hardly constantly. I’m aware some visa types have to be renewed every 3 years but still renewing isn’t hard. Getting it in the first place was time-consuming, renewing isn’t if one has behaved oneself.
