If you can’t read our road signs, you won’t be driving our highways.
It’s common sense, it’s the law and Alabama will continue enforcing it. #alpolitics
Thoughts on the morning drive…….illegal aliens driving 18-wheeled commercial trucks is a really bad idea!
You’ve probably seen some of the stories of illegal aliens being granted a CDL by certain sanctuary states. We too often hear that these drivers can’t read road signs, don’t know the rules of the road, and have no business getting behind the wheel of big rig freight hauler. A number of these cases have resulted in innocent bystanders and other drivers being killed by unqualified commercial drivers.
The Alabama State Legislature passed a state law recently that mandates English-language proficiency – kudos to them! Apparently, it was needed because in the last year and a half the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued over 500 citations for non-English speaking drivers, and referred over 200 drivers to ICE.
Well, now the US Department of Homeland Security is ramping up its efforts at the federal level by investigating driving schools that rubber stamp the certificates of completion for people who are not qualified to drive, to include illegal aliens.
My office is staying on top of this issue and will continue to do so. Illegal aliens have no business in the business of commercial freight hauling!
Thoughts on the morning drive!
It’s National Technician Appreciation Week. Thank you professional diesel and equipment technicians - Your hard work keeps our industry trucking!
Past Alabama Trucking Chairman Joe Black, who created the Alabama Maintenance Professional Task Force, which supports and fosters education, training and mentoring programs for those working in the industry, said that maintenance professionals are key to the success of any great trucking operation, whether it’s a carrier, an equipment manufacturer, or a dealer.
“Maintenance technicians are the unsung heroes in trucking,” he said. “These are hands-on pros who combine expertise and hard work to ensure the safe and efficient movement of America’s freight. On behalf of Alabama’s trucking industry, we thank them for the vital role they play in keeping our economy moving and our drivers safe.”

This is a powerful (and mostly unknown) story of truckers who powered the supply lines to retake Europe during WWII known as the Red Ball Express. Heroes then and now. #memorialday#alabamatrucking

The amount of billboard attorneys out there going after carriers of all sizes after the most minor incidents is ridiculous.
@pavel_botev told us last month how a trucker bumped a car. On the scene - everything was fine. Passenger left without needing any assistance. Then he reached out to a billboard attorney and all of a sudden he has back-pain and can’t work at his physical job anymore that pays $60-70k/month. Multiply that by 30 years of work and medical fees and you get a judge that demands millions from the carrier to compensate the individual who now is out of work and has medical fees.
Small carriers go out of business all the time cause of this and then typically reopen in various ways or some close shop and move on for good.
This is what many are worried will happen to brokers across the country. The big players can pay out and move on. The small players can’t.
Hard to tell what the impact will be - but yes from this POV it could negatively hit smaller brokers who can’t afford multimillion settlements.
Only time will tell.
For now - brokers will continue to operate until they have litigation brought against them.
Knowing billboard attorneys - they will be ruthless against brokerages and go after them hard.
Someone posted on X a couple days ago. @StephenRuhe maybe it was you. Fighting a case will be expensive even if the broker wins.
Brokers will need to have great attorneys working with them proactively plus capital to make sure they can fight these billboard attorneys.
What are we missing?
While politicians debate tariffs and tax policy, a hidden “lawsuit tax” is quietly inflating prices on groceries, consumer goods, and everything that moves by truck – which is nearly everything.
Affordability is the defining political issue of 2026. Any serious conversation about lowering costs must include lawsuit reform. You can’t fix inflation while ignoring the litigation tax embedded in every product that travels by truck.

Part 1 of a four-part series by guest contributor, Andrew Ryan on AI, experience, and what actually matters now.
If you’re 45, 50, 55, and you’ve spent decades in the trenches, whether that’s shipping products, closing deals, managing risk, navigating regulatory environments, or leading teams through situations no playbook prepared you for, I need you to hear this clearly:
You are not being replaced. You are being armed.

🚨The Trump Administration never wants to see another farmer or trucker experience the costly pain and aggravation that comes with a faulty DEF system, which is why President Trump just announced that the EPA is ENDING the requirement for DEF sensors on diesel vehicles and equipment. https://t.co/ZVO6k6q8Cz
That’s right, Coach!
Understanding Traffic and Safety signs should be the BARE MINIMUM as a truck driver. This is COMMON SENSE 🛑⚠️
Thank you, @GovernorKayIvey for keeping Alabama roads safe.
I have been informed by NBC that I won’t be back with FNIA this fall and it has given me time to reflect and also to look ahead.
It’s disappointing news but I want to thank my NBC family for making the last 17 years so special. I’ll have lasting memories of my time there, especially with Rodney Harrison who has become a tremendous friend.
God has always directed me in these moments and while I’m not sure what the next step will be for me—whether it will be in football, in broadcasting, or getting more involved in church and community outreach —I know God has plans for my life and I can’t wait see them unfold. And I am reminded of one of my favorite verses in the Bible-Romans 8:28. “God works all things for His good for those who love the Lord.”
✍️: I have signed SB242, a highway safety bill that will help @ALEAprotects continue their crackdown on illegal trucking operators.
If you cannot read, write and speak English, you do not need to be driving a commercial vehicle on our roads. #alpolitics
The Alabama Legislature gave final passage to SB242, sending a bill requiring commercial drivers to demonstrate English proficiency and carry valid entry documents to @GovernorKayIvey.
