For clarity: as a nurse working on a COVID-19 RSU I will have a vaccine as soon as one is declared effective, safe and available. I’m told I don’t know the long term effects of a vaccine. But I know the short term effects of Covid; my patients are sick and often they are dying.

Mask face, after a couple of hours wearing a respirator amongst patients on the RSU. My face literally feel it’s twisting out of shape at this time, but kudos to the fit tester, no virus is sneaking past that!

@peter_levy I get why people in rural areas with differing levels of infections feel hard done by, but the problem is that when they do get ill they will go to a few hospitals in large towns and cities that are already overwhelmed. This is what’s going on in Lincolnshire.

@jo_swidenbank @toxic_harpy 10 years later when I was a CCU charge nurse and smoking was not allowed, a colleague took direct action when a patient on o2 sparked up, extinguishing the cig by flinging water from his jug directly into his face. Took a while to parse the issues there and calm matters.

@toxic_harpy @jo_swidenbank Exactly the same for me! Wafts of smoke blowing through the room full of infarcting patients. Writing this, it sounds like it should have been a century ago.

@toxic_harpy @jo_swidenbank Likewise. Patients on orthopaedic units who were long term in bed and in traction. Nurses on nights on cardiac wards (!) “to keep them close to the patients” (!!!)

@laurastunurse Good for you, Laura! I have no insight into what the rules will be, but I’ve heard nothing to suggest you won’t have it if you have already had Covid, nor can I see why you wouldn’t.

Update: student nurse I worked with yesterday told me they’d an email from @UniOfHull saying would be offered vaccine when their frontline colleagues were. Well done to @FacHealthHull for managing this, thanks to @ColJJohnson and @barrett1972 for contact regarding this.

I strongly believe they should have the same access to the vaccine that the rest of the health care team does.
