What's wrong with writing with AI?
Alain deBotton says: "I don't just write to produce a certain numbers of words. I write in order to honor certain feelings, and AI can't know those feelings because it's not me.
It doesn't know what I want to say. And if I simply give my writing over to AI, it will crush my nascent sense about what it is I really want to say."
@Austen After listening to Hard Fork's interview with Amanda Askell — Anthropic's in-house philosopher — I'm inclined to think it's the former.
I mean, the clue is in the name of the company… internally they treat the current models like beings.
@emollick Do you think the gap (US vs others) is mostly about the ratio of early adopters in each country?
I also wonder whether some nations (e.g. Italy, Sweden) have seen a lag in AI output quality due to their native languages having smaller training bases.
@henrywinter As someone who watched Chelsea under Tuchel, “bold” is not a term I would associate with his style of coaching. Attacking players looked stymied by the end of his tenure.
@emollick For a while now, I've had this idea that future grads will sign with mega-corps for lengthy fixed-term funded apprenticeships that involve "doing the work" — with the top of the class eventually earning a senior position.
