@Rothmus The Patriot and Tea Party orgs claimed tax exemption under Social org code sections rather than Political. This ploy was to avoid disclosing donors which political NGOs have to do. Liberal orgs did the same but were harder to ID because they didn’t use standardized names.

The IRS budget was gutted as retribution.
