Last year I had the pleasure and privilege of filming and directing a 1hr for National Geographic on behalf of the BBC Natural History Unit. ‘ Baby Animal Rescue with @GilesClark78 ‘ airs tonight (Sun 15th Sept) @ 22:00 EST on @NatGeoTV (US only… for now).
This group of people, and their predecessors, have shaped cycling in the UK for decades.
Take a bow:
Ned Boulting
David Millar
Daniel Friebe
Gary Imlach
Matt Rendell
Pete Kennaugh
Alex Dowsett
Jacobo Guarnieri
+ anyone I've missed, the production team and everyone behind the scenes.
Thanks for getting so many people into this amazing sport. You'll be missed.

As @CITES turns 50, a new study in @FrontEcolEvol reveals that the global wildlife trade agreement is failing to curb illegal extraction and trafficking.
Researchers instead propose a new framework exploring institutionally diverse conservation models⬇️

As horrific fires rage in LA, news that world has breached 1.5 degrees global heating. Failure to join the dots & take urgent action is devastating legacy of too many political leaders. How many more cities must burn before we end new fossil fuel drilling? https://t.co/M61On4g84V
Water bills to rise 20% (£86) plus inflation in April and then above inflation for the next four years. @Ofwat gives private water companies in England the go-ahead to make customers pay for the investment they have failed to do for 30 years while enriching shareholders and bosses
Poor, pathetic, incompetent little @Ofwat has released its annual appraisal of WC's performance, as you'd expect it's grim.
Major pollution incidents up, customer satisfaction down, sewer flooding up, drinking water quality down, leakage up and on and on. Another annual litany of failure, that's what 35 years of regulation get you. Nothing!
Great video here summarising the key points from our new paper on proposed #trophy#hunting import bans - the evidence shows that such trophy hunting bans are disproportionate, unlikely to help #conservation and in fact risk harms to people & conservation
NEW: An Oxford-led study concludes that the proposed UK Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill could cause more harm than good for the species it is intended to protect.

Really important thread by @DanChallender. Trophy hunting bans are often driven by stated #conservation concerns, so examining the evidence is vital. TH not a major threat to any species (& can have benefits), so import bans are unjustified & disproportionate re #conservation
🐘🌍 Our Wildlife Trade researchers have found proposed UK #trophyhunting legislation could actually harm the species it intends to protect.
Most hunting trophies imported are from countries where hunted species populations were stable.

A more proportionate policy would be a smart ban, that is, exceptions would be made in circumstances where trophy hunting benefits species, hunting revenue is shared with local people, adaptive management and monitoring are in place, and the hunting area has good governance.
