Got to speak last night at Arbor Church in Dayton, Ohio, where I pastored 40 years ago starting in 1986, when it was Kemp Road Baptist Church. Exhilarating to see the growth with attendance at high 200s, even 300.  Jesus has built it big & strong! Pastor Tom Danube, my past fellow elder, is still 6’7”. Cedarville College students  have continued to attend thru the decades. Wonderful!

and got to stop by Intercity Baptist Church in Detroit
to spend time with Conrad Mbewe and his wife Felistas,
where he’s in for medical tests.

Grace Community Church in Saint Cloud, FL (RBNet)

from 15 different churches

An update regarding Pastor Jonathan Holdt, Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Pretoria, South Africa, battling with throat cancer, bronchial tumor surgery.
“Dear friends,
We just want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for praying with us. God has answered our prayers!

The operation was a huge success. Jonathan’s airway is open, his breathing is easy, and his oxygen levels are better than they have been in months. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and worship at God’s throne of grace, thanking Him for the many prayers He has answered today.

Please continue to pray that there will be no secondary infections or complications, and that Jonathan’s recovery will be full and complete.

To God be all the glory! 🙏❤️”

Adele Holdt, asks prayers for her husband, Jonathan, pastor in Pretoria, South Africa, at Bethany Baptist Church since 2005:
“Dear friends,

We would deeply value your prayers for us during this time.

Jonathan’s most recent bronchoscopy showed that the tumour, which has always encased his bronchus, has now grown into the bronchus itself and is obstructing it almost completely.

A panel of specialists met to discuss his case, and we have been referred to a specialist in Cape Town who, God willing, will remove the tumour on 6 October.

We are so grateful to the Lord that there is hope and a way forward. Please pray with us that the procedure will be successful, that Jonathan’s bronchus will open up and his breathing will be restored, and that the Lord, in His mercy, will grant him many more years with us.

Jonathan’s heart’s desire is still to preach God’s Word with passion and strength, and we pray that the Lord will enable him to continue doing what he loves so dearly.

Thank you for carrying us in your prayers. We are trusting the Lord one day at a time and resting in His goodness and faithfulness.”

JC Ryle on properly understanding and nurturing ASSURANCE of salvation:

“Finally, do not forget that assurance is a thing which may be lost for a season, even by the brightest Christians, unless they take
care.
Assurance is a most delicate plant. It needs daily, hourly watch-ing, watering, tending, cherishing. So watch and pray the more when you have got it. As Rutherford says, "Make much of assurance." Be always upon your guard. When Christian slept in the arbour, in Pilgrim's Progress, he lost his certificate. Keep that in mind.
David lost assurance for many months by falling into transgression. Peter lost it when he denied his Lord. Each found it again undoubtedly, but not till after bitter tears. Spiritual darkness comes on horseback, and goes away on foot. It is upon us before we know that it is coming. It leaves us slowly, gradually, and not till after many days. It is easy to run down hill. It is hard work to climb up. So remember my caution-when you have the joy of the Lord, watch and pray.
Above all, grieve not the Spirit. Quench not the Spirit. Vex not the Spirit. Drive Him not to a distance, by tampering with small bad habits and little sins. Little jarrings between husbands and wives make unhappy homes, and petty inconsistencies, known and allowed, will bring in a strangeness between you and the Spirit.
Hear the conclusion of the whole matter.
The man who walks with God in Christ most closely will generally be kept in the greatest peace.
The believer who follows the Lord most fully and aims at the highest degree of holiness will ordinarily enjoy the most assured hope, and have the clearest persuasion of his own salvation.”
