Mental Health Court today. Helping a woman with significant mental health Challenges. A safe residence is the critical issue that needs to be accessed. And we have succeeded on this. So a small win. We'll take it!

I’m helping a 16-year-old girl in the care of Alberta Children and Family Services, overseen by @SearleTurton. She texted me that she has nowhere to sleep tonight and will stay on the streets. There are too few placements. Children like her end up on street corners, in drug houses, and on the couches of Johns, where they face immediate harm. I’ve done this work since 1989, and I believe the child welfare system is worse under this government than I’ve ever seen it. #abpoli

So, quick update. She pleaded and has been allowed to stay at her sister's. Now, please remember, there is a reason she is in care, and I don't think this situation is ideal, but better than some dumpster. I will give her sister some funds for food.

So I continue to support this youth. Her legal guardian is Children Services, and her last text to me was that she is on the streets. I have given her funds for food and safe transportation. And I'm on standby so she can call me if she's in a situation sometime tonight.

Assisting a homeless man with an amputated arm and leg. Somebody stole his wheelchair when he was sleeping. Yeah. So we're trying to figure out the next steps (no pun intended) for him.

She has complex needs and wants a safe home, access to food, emotional support and stability. And she states that her legal guardian (Children Services) is failing miserably at that. #abpoli

These people have no family support, no place to live, no ID and no access to financial assistance. I don’t care what @MikeEllisUCP says: the #Yeg Remand Centre’s primary focus is security. When people leave remand without those basic supports, they’re dumped into crisis. Some may harm others. Many steal or deal. Many will become victims themselves. But thankfully our Minister is "Outraged." Yeah, that'll solve it, Mike.
