@Phanatic1a@SashaGusevPosts@FrancisEDecJr He is a serious person who deserves to be taken seriously. That’s why it’s so dangerous when he plays semantic games like this to obfuscate the truth.
@janelsooo@diegobromfield People are going to yell at you but this is honestly a fair question and good comparison.
The onside call is game-defining and giving leeway via a 3 second type rule would make it even more of a mess to officiate and play (but possibly better to watch in theory).
@Kofi_Y2K@A_zruh@ChristianityOn Growing up, boys are constantly told “just treat women like people.” The most credentialed humanities experts dismiss gendered patterns of behavior/preferences as “bioessentialism.”
NTs understand this as a polite fiction. Many autistic men take this literally.
@crossplainsjohn@borntopoast@RichardHanania That’s a terrible comparison and you know it.
“Oh you don’t want to open every meeting with The Lord’s Prayer? And yet you said “thank God it’s Friday” yesterday by the water cooler. Hypocrite much?”
In the context of dating there's this problem that men socialized under gender egalitarianism start to resent women, whom they view as defective or irrational men rather than representatives of the fairer sex.
Yglesias tried to make a soft version of the argument that men would do better if they understood that women are the way they are and will have different personality tendencies that need to be accommodated to find a long term relationship.
Demsas immediately picked up on the scent of gender essentialism and fell back into a habitual liberal dismissal of the validity of personality traits, or how any differences are too small to matter. This nearly reached a "what if my red is your blue" type of reality denial.
This ended up reinforcing for me why goodthinking liberals will continue to not have their own version of an online dating commentary or podcast scene that is popular while not being paired with right-wing values. A basic requirement of appealing to average people on the topic of dating and sex is to recognize that men and women are different. If the self-appointed chaperones of liberal discourse refuse to allow this, as an inherently right-wing premise, they will continue to cede the entire space.
@BarryPCotter@AnechoicMedia_@KelseyTuoc Dismissing sex differences as “bioessentialism” is a leftist position, but it’s rarely challenged in public by respectable lib pundits/pols.
Maybe Kelsey Piper has done that. Kelsey Piper is also smarter and more intellectually honest than 99%+ of the population.
@RFontain3@RPackstun@politicalmath That’s fair and a reasonably common opinion among Lynch heads. But when looking at the overall film landscape, ep8 is a much smaller fish than Mulholland Dr.
Not a judgment of quality tbc. Ep8 requires 3 seasons + a movie lead-in. Mulholland Dr. is a top-2 post-2000 canon film.
@sharintaint@chrismckeever@Noahpinion And we all know that state power is administered by eunuchs/Robocops that exist strictly to enforce the laws as written
@_david_cooley@estherzelda0514@Noahpinion Exactly!
It should be simple to defend universal suffrage based on first principles and measured historical benefits. A couple liberal-minded online debaters could push the topic back to the fringe in a matter of weeks.
But none of them show up.
@RFontain3@RPackstun@CuriousInkCo@politicalmath Lynch is a legend but I don’t think he moves the needle in this discussion. He’s had comparable, arguably greater works in each of the four prior decades (70s Eraserhead, 80s Blue Velvet, 90s TP/FWWM, 00s Mulholland Dr.).
