Catherine Connolly’s views challenge, rather than conform to, the boundaries of Ireland/Europe’s liberal consensus — that does not make them extreme.

A woman from a rural working-class family - one of 14 siblings, raised in social housing and shaped by left-wing values - wins a landslide in Ireland’s presidential election.
Yet millionaire businessmen and women insist the “spoil the vote” campaign is the real victor.

Today hundreds of thousands of kids in Gaza are on the brink of famine, many now unable to walk.
A few miles away other kids sit in McDonald's and order a happy meal.
The world of Netanyahu.
The face of a racist. Waving "her" Irish flag, racially harassing @coutinho_louise on the DART today.
People like this need to be called out. It's not her country.
Please share and retreat, so people in her life know who she really is.

It is with sadness that I have had to tender my resignation as Minister for International Development and for Women and Equalities.
While I disagree with the ODA decision, I continue to support the government and its determination to deliver the change our country needs.
While the issue of how politicians interact with and support #Carers is on the timeline this graphic from @CareAllianceIrl is very helpful.
Full marks for the @SocDems 💜

Fine Gael leader Simon Harris was approached during a canvass this evening by a woman who says she is a carer, and who said she believes the Government has "done nothing for us" | follow live: https://t.co/eUoCK3Qb5Y
Fine Gael’s conduct in this election campaign has been extraordinary. At the outset it devised a budget that broke promises to keep social welfare payments in step at least with inflation, the failure over 13 years to provide houses for those who need them, the spectacular wastage of public money, the mountains of our cash to buy our votes, the inclusion of at least one thug among its candidates and a determination to shout down opponents in debates. Well done.
@OCallaghanCian points to Fianna Fail failure to deliver on promises in 2020 election to build 50000 affordable purchase homes.
It delivered just 1000
The @SocDems will deliver 75000 affordable housing through local authorities and not for profit housing bodies
