Stone cold justice by John Lyons was published in the Weekend Australian Magazine on 26 November 2011.
This is the article the AIJAC criticized him vehemently for.
After the publication of this story, Lyons says he was no longer invited to functions by the Australian embassy in Tel Aviv.
In Stone cold justice, Lyons describes the appalling treatment of Palestinian children in the Israeli military court.
Hundreds of Palestinian children are tried there each year, most “accused of throwing stones” & most will be jailed “as the court has close to a 100 per cent conviction rate”. Imprisonment will be “anything from two weeks to 10 months. Some will end up in adult jails”.
Lyons writes about the different treatment of Palestinian children compared to Israeli children:
For example:
“In Israel a child cannot be sent to prison until 14; in Israel there are laws against a child being taken away at night; and in Israel a child cannot be interrogated without a parent.”
Maximum detention without charge 40 days in Israel.
“For Palestinian children it is 188 days”
Maximum detention without a lawyer 48 hrs in Israel.
“For Palestinian children it is 90 days”
6.5% of Israeli children before the court go to prison
83% of Palestinian children before the court go to prison
John Lyons was writing in 2011 & Four Corners 10 covered the story in February 2014

According to Jillian Segal the ABC and SBS need oversight of its reporting on Gaza and they should run +ve stories about Israel.
I reckon truthful reporting on Israels inhumanity, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and genocide is essential.
This should be the Royal Commissions priority
