Practice takeaways:

▪️ Great opening team drive for the Bears offense: Maurice Alexander catch, big plays from Kalif Raymond and D’Andre Swift, including TDs.

▪️ Zavion Thomas keeps showing natural hands. Had a diving catch and looked comfortable fielding punts on a windy day.

▪️ Punt return note: Kalif Raymond was first up. Luther Burden III tried to go second, but Richard Hightower wanted Zavion Thomas there. Respect Burden, but you’re too important to the offense, sir.

▪️ Sam Roush had a nice catch. Qadir Ismail also had a small TD and moves well for a big TE.

▪️ Scotty Miller caught a nice fade-ball TD from Case Keenum.

▪️ Backed-up drill: Caleb Williams nearly got picked by Jaylon jones l.

▪️ Caleb underthrew Rome Odunze on a deep ball where Rome was open. Rome had a shot, went up for it, but couldn’t corral it and came down hard. That’s the type of special play you want to see him finish.

▪️ Caleb came back with a dart to Colston Loveland on the sideline.

▪️ Devin Bush picked off Caleb to end a move-the-ball period.

▪️ Strong bounce-back from Caleb in 7-on-7: completions to Loveland, Jahdae Walker, Kyle Monangai, Rome, and Loveland again. Started 5-for-5 and finished a perfect 10-for-10.

▪️ Windy day, but Zavion Thomas, Kalif Raymond, and Luther Burden III all judged punts well and caught the ball cleanly with their hands.

▪️ Jedrick Wills Jr. was back at practice. Big body, moving well, and quicker than you’d think. Looking forward to seeing him in training camp. #DaBears #Bears #ChicagoBears

Zavion Thomas moves like he’s in fast forward.

Ben Johnson said today:

He tends to make a play every day if we can harness all this energy and make sure that we can trust him and he’s going to align where he needs to and run the route the way we need him to then we really could use him and he could be a big weapon for us this year.

Thomas has been impressive. Obviously he’s fast and an explosive athlete but I’ve been very impressed by his route running in ball skills.. #DaBears #Bears #ChicagoBears

Top 3 takeaways from Bears minicamp:

3. This defense is going to be more versatile

The Bears caused a lot of confusion today.

Different looks. Unblocked pressure. Disguised coverage. Showing pressure and backing out.

That’s what makes life hard on QBs when the picture changes after the snap.

2. Zavion Thomas looks like a real WR

Not just a returner. Not just a gadget guy.

He’s quick, explosive, runs good routes and has natural hands. You can see the burst and confidence growing.

Crowded WR room, but this guy can help the Bears this year.

1. Jaylon Johnson looks like the old Jaylon Johnson

Two interceptions. Good coverage all day. Matched up with Rome Odunze/Luther. Looked quick, confident and healthy.

Minicamp Practice takeaways:

▪️ TJ Edwards was back on the field and moving well.

▪️ Jaylon Johnson had a big day 2 INTs and covered well throughout.

▪️ Caleb had a tougher day. Not terrible. Two picks and missed Colston Loveland on a potential explosive. Still made some nice throws.

▪️ Zavion Thomas keeps flashing. Smooth routes, good ball skills, quick-screen TD, and that 4.2 speed showed up.

▪️ Kalif Raymond made a lot of plays. Quick in and out of breaks, great burst, and put Thieneman in a blender once.

▪️ Sam Roush is already being moved all over backfield, out wide, attached. Impressive for a rookie. He’s going to help this year.

▪️ Luther Burden had a couple nice catches in team. Still showing up.

▪️ Rome Odunze looked fine in individuals but didn’t do much in team. Had a nice TD in 7 on 7 over the middle in traffic.

▪️ Tyrique Stevenson had some strong coverage snaps, including a PBU where he suffocated Rome. Tweaked his ankle on the play.

▪️ Kmet had a nice seam grab for an explosive. Loveland was solid and moved around a lot.

▪️ Dayo Odeyingbo was on the practice field for team and individual work.

▪️ No Jedrick Wills or Kyler Gordon today. #DaBears #Bears #ChicagoBears
