Do you like functional traits, competition, mesocosm experiments, ants and rigorous fieldwork in unusual tropical systems?
Then you might like this new paper - the last from my DPhil @UniofOxford - in @FunEcology:

New paper in #BiologicalConservation: Artificial light at night has surprisingly limited effects on ant communities in a field experiment💡🐜 Research by fantastic students @BiolSci_UWA@uwanews I had the pleasure of supervising. https://t.co/TxJl7OJPHQ #ALAN#Ecology#Insects
With global warming, non-native ants currently confined to indoor environments (e.g. buildings, greenhouses) may march outdoors, impacting nature and society. Our new study:

🚨 New publication alert! 🚨
Our new study shows how climate change could unleash non-native ants from indoor spaces (yes, including your home!) into outdoor environments. 🐜🌍
New paper in #BiologyLetters: preliminary evidence for a less appreciated latitudinal biodiversity gradient – in how communities partition time⌛️🌞🌔

A fun study in a unique ecosystem that never made it to my DPhil thesis but is finally(!) written up

First Happy Meal in decades and look what came in the box! A bug-themed card game, even allocating points to different ‘functional’ #traits like Size, Speed and Brains! Honestly well done @maccas. Hope this will inspire all the little entomologists 🐜🦋🪲🐝
🚨JOB ALERT🚨
Interested in how the microclimate mediates the coexistence of species rich insect communities?
Us too! Come and work @CUBiosciences with me, @andrewbdavies, @cjanion and @RebeccaASenior on our @HFSP funded project.

Grateful that @ConBiology published my letter about the use of inaccurate images in #invasivespecies news. Another journal had dismissed it as (simply) anecdotal. Responses to the article now suggest this may be a pervasive problem and for many taxa 🤔

New letter @ConBiology, on the problematic misrepresentation of #invasive species in the mass media with images of unrelated organisms, e.g.: invasive fire ants misportrayed by images of weaver ants in @guardian & @Telegraph. #Conservation#Ecology

Seen examples of this many, many times over the years - and also for native species.
Misrepresentation of invasive species in the mass media with images of unrelated organisms. Conservation Biolog. e14382. https://t.co/B5HU7A3SHI
@CassieFreund @ConBiology@guardian@Telegraph Thank you! Completely agree. I think better comms btwn journalists & scientists/experts is key.. e.g. checking w. experts if a (stock)photo designated for use is taxonomically accurate.. And experts should always promote the use of scientific names in general
