Don’t forget that Rassie went a step further and publicly said he wouldn’t extend his own contract unless Tony Brown and the rest of his assistants extended theirs as well. That means something. It shows how important that coaching group is to him.

If Tony leaves, that’s effectively a decision that goes against Rassie’s wishes. The cracks are there. I don’t think Rassie will be happy about it, and for someone who likes having things go according to plan, it has to bother him.

Why do you think the All Blacks announced Tony’s signing two years early? Moves like that aren’t made by accident. It sends a message, creates stability, and maybe rattles the cart a little bit.

Sometimes it only takes one little move to start shifting the balance.
