Married to @OtherGill, father of 2 awesome Girls, Cloud Architect, Wardley Mapper. focused on Engineering excellence, Well Architected, Serverless first.
Workflows are the biggest upgrade to Claude Code’s capabilities since skills and subagents.
I dove deep into it with @sidbid to figure out best practices, examples and more. I’m particularly excited about the non-technical tasks it enables for Claude Code.
“AI is making specifications a first-class engineering artefact again.”
For years, we treated specs as paperwork.
Now they're becoming one of the most valuable assets in software engineering.
Because AI can generate the code.
But it still needs:
✅ clear intent
✅ clear context
✅ clear requirements
The teams that win with AI won't be the ones writing the most code.
They'll be the ones writing the best specifications.

Claude Opus 4.8 is out today. It's our strongest coding model yet: up on SWE-bench Pro (from 64.3 to 69.2) and noticeably more honest about its own work. It tells you when it's unsure and catches its own bugs instead of declaring victory early. Same price as 4.7.
Excited to share our most powerful new Claude Code feature: dynamic workflows!
Mention "workflow" in a prompt and Claude will dynamically create an orchestration plan that it strictly follows, allowing you to confidently trust that every stage happens in the right order even across 100s of agents.
“You can’t outsource your critical thinking.”
AI accelerates delivery.
But judgement, architecture and organisational clarity still matter more than ever.

“If code generation throughput goes up, then all the other stuff becomes even more important.”
AI can accelerate software delivery.
But it also increases:
-cognitive load
-coordination challenges
-governance pressure
-architectural complexity
That’s why Team Topologies and socio-technical thinking matter more than ever.

it’s in gemini, just create it in ai studio. oh, that’s for your personal google one account. for workspace you need gemini business. no, not gemini advanced, that’s ai pro now. unless you need ai ultra. oh agents? you do that in spark actually. no, not gemini api managed agents, that’s different. for coding use jules. unless you mean the agentic ide, that’s antigravity. no, that’s the old antigravity, download the new one. actually gemini cli is being deprecated, use antigravity cli. no the flash model is smarter than the pro model. unless you need pro. if its video, use flow. no, flow uses veo. no, nano banana is images. actually that’s in gemini now. unless you’re in search, then it’s ai mode. no, research is notebooklm. anyway it’s all very simple.
AI isn’t just changing software delivery.
It’s changing the shape of engineering teams.
“The bottleneck is no longer code creation.”
Now it’s:
-cognitive load
-decision making
-collaboration
-organisational design
And that’s why concepts like Team Topologies matter more than ever.
Because AI agents don’t remove complexity.
They amplify it.
The teams that succeed won’t just adopt AI faster.
They’ll design better socio-technical systems around it.

Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.
Live from Code with Claude London: we're launching self-hosted sandboxes (public beta) and MCP tunnels (research preview) in Claude Managed Agents.
Run agents inside your own perimeter, with your security controls applied by default.
Been thinking about what an "agent-native cloud" actually needs to look like. Mentioned this, and @Vercel's CEO replied that it'll be them. Cool! Here's the spec they (or @Cloudflare, or some startup not yet invented) actually have to hit.
It won't be @awscloud.
