people who were hurt are justified. people who chose to leave are justified. but sending death threats, spreading rumors, or comparing mark to genuinely abusive public figures isn't accountability, it's cruelty.
at some point, it stops being about the confederate flag or the people it hurt and starts becoming an excuse to hate him. if you're weaponizing black people's pain just to fuel your hatred, you've completely missed the point.
i don't think mark is evil. i don't even think he's a bad person. i think he made an incredibly ignorant mistake that deserved to be taken seriously. but nobody deserves death threats or harassment. we're losing sight of what accountability is supposed to look like.
it's useless to point these things to people who are fixed to the narrative they made up.
time can only tell and show his true colors, and for 10yrs of his career these people don't believe his clean record at all that's why they kept making things up about him
Tell them he moved to Korea at 12 in middle school, they'll brush that off coz it doesn't fit well with their narrative. Tell them he verbally said he can't remember much of his time in Canada, they'll brush that too. Anything that don't fit their narrative, they won't believe it
'education in both the US and Canada'... He said he doesn't even remember much about Canada when fans asked him 😭 He wasn't in the US for too long either, do y'all forget that he passed audition when he was literally 12 and then moved to Korea
being disappointed in mark and not accepting his apology is completely your right. but mocking and harassing him isnt. i don't believe he knew what the shirt meant or wore it with bad intentions. after 10 years without any behavior that suggested racism, i don’t think it's fair +
I understand why some people are angry, why some can’t forgive him, and why they want to hold him accountable. Those feelings are entirely valid.
What I cannot understand is how this has been blown so far out of proportion. People are spreading misinformation and weaponizing unrelated incidents to portray him as someone he isn’t.
If you want to criticize what happened, focus on what actually happened.
Don’t use one mistake to erase a decade of his kindness, sincerity, and hard work.
And before judging someone’s entire character, ask yourself whether one mistake is really enough to define a person.
He deserves to be criticized, but please criticize him based on the issue at hand—don’t bring up unrelated matters. Educate him and criticize him based on what actually happened, but don’t spread information unrelated to the issue.
tbh reading all the tweets i think the problem with some of you is that you believe a person can either be a virtuous flawless man or a complete reincarnation of the devil 😭
okay im all for holding him accountable but yall just making hate and REACHING rn like u cant just making wild assumptions abt him (eg. crying when charlie got kirked, relate everything w his religion..) what hes done has NOTHING to do with those
@nopdnb@upperroomlabel yes, he's 26 now so it's great that people called him out. again, i wouldn't just expect people to instantly know everything but this is a GOOD opportunity for him to educate himself, considering that he is a rapper too as you said. he's ignorant yes not denying that.
not everyone actually knows about this flag and if u do, great opportunity to kindly educate people instead of assuming that everyone knows about it already. there's just too much history one can really be aware of. Educate and Address it @upperroomlabel
for those who don’t know what happened or the meaning behind it
the tshirt Mark is wearing has the Confederate flag on it
during the American Civil War Virginia was one of the most important states in the Confederacy which defended SLAVERY and separated from the Union
also let's not forget how fcked up the educational system there pls a lot of yall are ignorant of your own history. best to educate people and tell them what mistake they did.
some of you are verrrrry odd individuals.. running to make out of pocket “jokes” about the situation and projecting false narratives onto him in attempts to farm hit twts…we have strayed so far from the actual issue and topic at hand
@nopdnb@upperroomlabel his family moved to New York when he was 6, and moved back to Canada when he's prolly 11. He auditioned at 12 and moved to Korea Middle School as transfer student. By the time he should be learning the weight and meaning of this, he's already in Korea and lived there since.
i hope the fandom can learn how important our voices and concerns actually are from this issue. we hv more power than you think, holding them accountable IS an act of supporting them.
