Religion remains one of the greatest barriers to accountability in Nigeria.

Fast forward to 2026: with citizens, teachers, and children recently held hostage in Oyo State, the tune has completely changed. Worshippers are suddenly urged to stay silent, pray, and avoid "politics."

​Why the sudden shift? Because the First Lady, Mrs. Remi Tinubu, is an ordained pastor in the church.
​When the pulpit prioritizes political access and institutional protection over the suffering of the masses, it ceases to be a spiritual refuge. We have reduced the divine to a tool for selective convenience. Until the Nigerian masses realize that these large religious institutions often prioritize their own comfort and political survival over collective welfare, we will continue moving backward. A painful irony.
