It's been a while. Last month I retired from State Parliament as a @greensSA MP and handed the baton over to the wonderful @SimmsRobert Rob was sworn in last week and is already making a mark. He's well worth following for lowdown on #saparli I'll still tweet now and then too.
@Jac15_9@TomRichardson It's on the internet, so it must be true! A pervasive rumour holds that, after being told he could recuperate in the seaside town of Bognor Regis, the king’s last words were “Bugger Bognor.”
@kymaher@PennyWrites It was the first time. Having now experienced the awesome power of making people sit down when their 5 minutes is up, I don’t know why I didn’t do more of it!
If you are near a screen today at 4pm Adelaide time, you can tune in to my "valedictory" speech, along with my colleague @TammyMLC. Tomorrow, MPs from other parties will make their contributions. The link today is: https://t.co/luGpuUnciB #saparli@greensSA@saygreens
@nickharmsen I got a bollocking when I asked a question in Parli about this 10 yrs ago. I was told the media wanted to know what MPs had for lunch and every pie, muffin and chocolate bar would be in the paper. There must be a level of accountability that allows the AG to verify the accounts.
@peta_spyrou@almclachlan1 I also have a South Australian flag that I can certify has sat neglected in a cupboard in my #saparli office for years. Back in the day, all MPs were allocated free flags to give local schools and special guests. I have one left if you’d like a souvenir of your time here Peta.
@JustinHansonMLC@greensSA@TammyMLC I've never been in the Adelaide Club, but I imagine there is a Royal portrait or two hanging from the walls. If your invitation is not forthcoming, I know that the Australian Republican Movement is recruiting.
The Monarchists are having a field day in #saparli. Vote was 17:2 in favour of progressing a Bill to re-instate QCs to the legal profession in SA. Are the @greensSA the only party prepared to come out from under Queen Victoria's skirts? @TammyMLC
@JustinHansonMLC@greensSA@TammyMLC Your lot moved very meritorious amendments to gut the Bill, but when it failed and push came to shove, you all voted for the Bill in an unamended form. You can read all about it in Hansard tomorrow.
@ecoscore @greensSA@TammyMLC A fair cop, but visually, I like the alternative. Luckily, I was not called to task for referencing barristers "running back to the Elizabethan bosom" as per Richard Ackland's article on this topic 6 years ago!
The final vote on the Bill was 18:2 in favour of reinstating QCs. The record will show how Labor, Liberal and SA-Best Members voted. "It exposes that Australian tendency to desperate insecurity, which can only be cured by blessings and baubles from the motherland." R. Ackland
@IaenCordell@MichaelSmyth_ Last time the fax machine went off in my Parliament House office (a few years ago) our junior trainee nearly had a heart attack - had never heard such a thing!
