Veterans are under fire and attack from our own government, being prosecuted for doing the job we paid and ordered them to do. This is abhorrent. It’s ridiculous. You can’t demand absolute obedience in war, then retroactively punish those who obeyed when politics change.
In a world that’s more dangerous and unstable than it’s ever been in my lifetime, we’re supposed to recruit the next generation to serve?
I can see the advert now:
Join the armed forces.
We will train you and order you to do exactly as you’re told, without question or exemption.
A few years later, we will prosecute you, remove your pension, and lock you up.

My thoughts are based on the experiences of several NHS patients currently on our waiting lists. I know of many friends, colleagues and patients who have waited far longer than the Labour government claims. This is the falsehood: appointments are booked within three months, only to be extended by the same period again just weeks before they are due, sometimes repeatedly. This obviously brings the waiting list figures down, but it does not account for rebooked appointments. It looks great on paper, Keir, but it does not reflect reality.
