In an age of striving celebrity and instant internet fame, never forget that purpose can give you a platform, but platform will never give you a purpose. On losing Eugene Peterson and so many other giants: https://t.co/7QQLdVHk2v
One of my favorite @cnieuwhof episodes. @johnortberg breaks down the divide between leadership & spiritual formation. Thank you Carey & John! https://t.co/exVNPRlAZr
@gavin_adams I bought it @gavin_adams and already reading it. I keep thinking, "Where has this book been for the past few years?" π So insightful and practical. Thanks Gavin.
@lukedsimmons These questions are great, Luke! I'm curious about your strategy for question #1. Why have the pathway for a 1st-time guest land at a "committed volunteer" vs a small group?
@lukedsimmons Gotcha. Our team has been wrestling with this & we believe Sunday am service fosters a level 2 relationship. We're organizing block parties & all-church social events that we believe are level 1-2 while we simultaneously double down on small groups that we believe are level 3.
@MattBeard@lukedsimmons "Organizing angle" = love that phraseology. I often called it the "through thread" tying the sermon together. Often emerges unexpectedly like a whale from beneath the ocean: unmistakable. π
@steveryancarter Thanks, Steve. Oddly, though we don't know each other, I immediately felt a connection to you after reading this post. My Dad died 9 yrs ago. I still feel the void (sometimes a tinge of guilt for "moving on"). I enjoy telling ppl about him in honoring ways & stories to my kids.
Thereβs of course more to this story, and I hope youβll read it, and enjoy the beautiful photos by Jesse Barber. Hereβs a no-paywall link to my reporting from Wilmore: https://t.co/pkHoYN9D9l
