@kestrelpsych No problem Tom…highly prescriptive practice scenarios with low contextual interference or game relativity are beginning to fade, albeit slowly as you say…practice should look and feel like games for players!
Coach education is the key 📚
Coaching through an Ecological Dynamics lens 🧵
What should I pay attention to when coaching through an Eco D lens? What does coaching look like using this theoretical viewpoint?

I became a better “skills” coach when I began to deepen my understanding of the relationship between an individual, their teammates, defenders and environment they play in.
Here’s what I mean -
What does a beginner coach, working with young kids NEED to know:
How to make it fun.
How to make it safe.
How to build postive relationships with kids and their parents / carers.
How to teach basic skills in an engaging and enjoyable way.
How to create an environment where the child has the opportunity to fall in love with the sport and movement.
What is it many sporting associations TEACH them at beginner coaching courses?
Physiology.
Biomechanics.
Psychology.
Skill Acquisition.
Periodization.
Sport and the Law.
Coaching Pedagogy.
Is it just me????
This is like trying to develop Dentists by having them study Carpentry.
The world is crying out for coaches - yet we're training them to do everything BUT actually coach.
Having said that - thankfully - a lot of sports have got the message and have changed their coach education, training and development programs but most places I go around the world, the "default" is still as it was in 1980s.
Coach coaches to coach - is it really that difficult to design and deliver education programs that focus on that?
Streatham Blackhawks are hosting trials. The training sessions will be: Tuesday 20th, 27th June & 4th July 20:15 - 21:15. There will also be an weekend session Sunday 9th July from 16:30 - 17:30. Sessions will cost £15. Please be in touch if you are interested in attending.
@StreathamNIHL2 Excited to continue the good work so far, development is key to producing players who can legitimately play at higher levels - a notion both the club and I are passionate about #blackhawksnihl2#syihc#development

Still getting a lot of Ecological Dynamics is just knocking down coaching "strawmen" and is just "old wine in new bottles" types of comments. Honestly, I just don't get it....🤷♂️
What makes a champion?
An analysis of over 6,000 athletes found distinct differences between those who made it to world-class versus those who didn't progress from child star.
Similar research has been done on one-hit wonders and Nobel Laureates.
Here's what they found:
