@sitarah_m Dear Sitarah, could you kindly follow me back? I would love to share in confidence a Hazara-related matter with you. Thank you so much. Btw a huge thank you for your passionate plea for the Hazara people in the UN debate not long ago.
Check out my article about the really bad ideas about masculinity that gave my abuser John Smyth (see below) the intellectual validation for what he did to me and many other boys and young men in the UK and Africa. https://t.co/iZSmFCoJpO
J Welby now on BBC1 to @bbclaurak “I have said sorry to the ones who wanted to meet me.” Justin, you and I spent 90 mins talking about my abuse by Smyth in December. Not once did you say sorry. You didn’t ask me how I was. You implied you were the victim. This is v all sad 😢
J Welby says he would like to be forgiven by Smyth survivors but cannot demand it. I told you I forgave you when I was with you at Lambeth last December. You seemed to find it as hard to cherish then as you find it hard to honour now on BBC1
@NickyAACampbell I can thoroughly recommend this book by @markstibbe “Home at Last”
the trauma of rejection he experienced as a result of being sent to boarding school aged 8
As an adult his heart was “boarded up”
‘Junior’ clergy are now having their PTOs (permission to officiate) withdrawn post-Makin while archbishops and bishops remain in their protected positions. This is like punishing NCOs when it’s the generals that need to go. Just do the right thing @churchofengland#cleansweep 😤
Watching Mark Stibbe on #Newsnight... his personal testimony of abuse by John Smyth is horrifying and heartbreaking. The scale and severity of Smyth's crimes, and the shameful failure to hold him to account when survivors first came forward, simply beggars belief. #WelbyResign
@jk_rowling Thank you Jo. I was saying to my wife earlier, on a bracing walk with the dogs, that if anyone can empathise with orphans at boarding school, it’s you. Appreciate your comment very much, as do my fellow survivors x
This week saw the publication of the Makin report into the cover up by the Church of England of Barrister John Smythe’s brutal physical and sexual abuse of at least 100 children. Smythe’s abuse of children was known about by the highest members of the Anglican Church since at least 2013 but they failed to investigate until after his death.
One of Smythe’s victims, author @markstibbe , was abused whilst in “the care of” an elite boarding school who clearly failed to keep him safe. Mark joined me and @wolvercoteman on @LockedUpLiving this week. Although he touches on abuse by Smythe in his story, Mark’s account is powerfully centred on the vulnerability to abuse created by dislocation from parents.

Have a missed something or have precisely zero @churchofengland bishops made a public call for the resignation of @JustinWelby for his lamentable handling of the Smyth matter? How can the bishops be trusted with safeguarding when they put career/collegiality ahead of it?
The last taboo.
Earlier this year, @cspencer1508 published his biography in which he shared that he had been sexually abused by a woman. This was such a brave and powerful disclosure. Over the years, we’ve heard many such accounts in therapy but it’s much less rarely spoken about in public. Today’s guest has a similarly powerful story. On @LockedUpLiving this week, me and @wolvercoteman are talking to author @markstibbe who shares his heartbreaking experience of adoption, elite boarding school, emotional deprivation and sexual abuse.

@A1966Mary @NMPsychologist@LockedUpLiving TY so much for this Marie. I speak a lot about the father wound and boarding school trauma/recovery in my book Home at Last. I didn’t give enough attention to the mother wound so I’m just balancing things. Plus the focus in this interview was on matron/mother.
