This terrific article by @sioroberts will help elevate the public discussion of AI in mathematics. The interview about the Leiden Declaration is especially helpful. https://t.co/u4SYxQVXZ2
Since so many people are screaming "recession" based on a statistically insignificant 0.036% quarterly drop in real GDP, here is a description of the NBER methodology for dating U.S. recessions, which is similar to what C.D. Howe used for Canada.

In terms of Black and Milobar:
Black had primarily a Metro Vancouver/suburban breadth.
Milobar had primarily an Interior regional concentration, particularly around Kamloops, which is not surprising given his origins.
The BC Conservatives use a points system for selecting their leader: 100 points per electoral district (if <100 members, then # points = # members. Here is the leadership vote distribution in the final round and the distribution of voter effectiveness (points per valid vote).
There were about 1000 more voters Outside Metro Vancouver.
The voter district distribution for this leadership vote likely reflects things like the depth of the party's local organizations, candidate networks, etc.
@pauljlange These points systems are intended to make electoral districts the fundamental voting unit. Like provincial or federal ridings, however, these electoral districts can have wide variation in the number of voters in them. This is how rural voters, e.g., can be over-represented.
These percentages are of the available points. There are 100 points for each electoral district (unless they have fewer than 100 members, in which case points available = # of members).
It is possible to win the leadership with less than half the total members supporting you.

Reading commentary on this morning’s GDP data. Please, please, I beg you, stop saying that imports reduced GDP growth. Imports don’t reduce GDP. There’s a difference between an accounting convention (subtracting imports to get GDP) and a causal economic relationship.
