MY MAY 2026 STATS
Summary/Highlights
- Coldest May night -1.2C/Coldest day 10.5C
- 22nd May observed 1st 24h 'double digit' min since 11th Oct '25.
That 1st 24h min of 10C or higher was a new warmest May min: 12.4C!
Also... Wettest May day & tie for most 0°C May nights
If the temperature does not rise higher than 35.1ºC for the rest of this year, 2026 would have the earliest annual UK maximum temperature on record since May 1965, and it would be one of the earliest on record since 1875. It wouldn't surprise me if we did record higher, though.
We’ll be releasing full Spring 2026 and May statistics on Monday 1 June.
Early provisional Met Office statistics show that spring so far has seen:
🌡️ Above average UK temps - especially England & Wales
🌧️ Below average UK rainfall - especially in southern England
☀️ Above average sunshine
But there's significant variation in these figures across regions. We'll explain all on Monday.
This week has delivered an exceptional spell of warmth across the UK – with spring and May temperature records not just nudged, but exceeded by as much as 2°C in places. A clear signal of just how historic this event has been.
A few years ago I made an experimental index that considers the temperatures, relative humidity, & wind speed across a heatwave & compares it with the average of all heatwaves recorded.
Incredibly, the current May heatwave scores 3rd highest on record up to day 4.
50 DEGREES 🌡️2026 WORLD HOTTEST DAY 🌡️
50.5c today at Jacobabad Pakistan:
Australia was just dethroned.
An extraordinary heat wave is ongoing in MIDDLE EAST:
Tomorrow we might see 50C in Kuwait and Iran and lots of records allover the area.
Stay tuned.
