Lalo Schifrin (1932-2025). Few composers write a theme that becomes recognised by almost everyone in the Western world, but Mission Impossible arguably achieves this status. Its best placement was surely for this gem of a TV ad from the UK circa 1990... https://t.co/WurUYvhHhE
Some thoughts on the origins of computer-based music, and the danger of conflating the difficulty in replicating human creativity as proof of its uniqueness. https://t.co/2G9IA0MMqQ
@lbc@NickFerrariLBC I’m going to start a cash protest by boycotting any vendor who won’t accept grain, salt, or cattle in exchange for goods. This modern, fungible tender isn’t going to last, I’m quite sure of that.
A big thank you to @DavidGArnold for striking such a fetching pose for the header photo used in my review of Apple’s latest M4-series and M3 Ultra-based Macs in the May 2025 issue of @soundonsoundmag 😁 https://t.co/mver1nfHsj
@BenKentish@lbc Having an ID card is different than having a key to a monolithic database. Technically, you wouldn’t store all the data in ‘one database’! ID just identifies you for the purpose of a singular department enquiry. Eg. HMRC doesn’t need access to NHS history.
@IainDale@lbc It’s important to note that GPS is less accurate vertically than it is horizontally. So a phone in a second floor flat, for example, would show the same location as a phone in a first floor flat.
Could the latest version of #Cubase be @SteinbergMedia's most ambitious yet? My thoughts on Cubase 14 are featured in the January 2025 issue of @soundonsoundmag . https://t.co/8xvFrg5WHx
@clivebull@lbc As a movie musical, Moulin Rouge! worked at the time, but hasn't aged at all well. Portmanteau suggestion: Glindiator = Glinda (character) + Gladiator...
Some words I wrote just before the release of Logic Pro 11.1 for Mac and Logic Pro 2.1 for iPad yesterday. Apple acquiring the technology behind Quantec's Room Simulator is an unexpected but welcome move. https://t.co/TCOcl0zwoK
@mrjamesob@lbc The problem with age verification is all adults would also have to prove their age. This could severely limit person<->person connections across countries with different content laws. The UK has less might outside of the EU, and could self-harm its tech position.
@lbc@mrjamesob ID would mean every single user on every social network in the UK would require their accounts to be disabled until they re-authenticaed. Also, with the UK outside the EU, the lobbying power the UK has globally is minimal. Companies could threaten to leave the UK.
@mrjamesob Aside from the fact younger users view the Internet via Web3 services like social media (vs portal sites in the late 90s), trad media is increasingly (and desperately) trying to monetise its content via paywalls, etc. It's forgotten the license fee keeps BBC News free!
"Cubase 13 has something for every musician and audio engineer, ensuring a better experience for everyone who uses Steinberg’s Advanced Music Production System." My review appears in the December issue of @soundonsoundmag. https://t.co/eagaruGzMU
My review of Logic Pro for iPad appears in the November issue of @soundonsoundmag. To see a full implementation of Logic Pro running on what Steve Jobs described as a "magical and revolutionary device" is pretty incredible. https://t.co/XzluRhH9D6
