A question for my prehospital care colleagues
When starting a #resuscitation with an #AED, what is the most shocks you have ever delivered BEFORE the arrival of an #ambulance?
Pls RT so we get a good sample

@TheLeeMcLaren@jasonkillens@JBPara999@AACE_org It's simple, and cost effective. Trouble was, no one researched the positive effect of RRVs. When I worked on one, my non conveyance rates were 65-75 % a month.
@jasonkillens@TheLeeMcLaren@JBPara999@AACE_org I remember the "front loaded model " where RRVs went to everything and Emergency Ambulances were only allocated to a small range of incidents that they were needed for. It would have worked if it had been able to continue.
How, as leaders, do we motivate people to do their most productive work? New research says that too often we make assumptions linked to "agency theory": that people need strong managerial control, targets, monitoring & regulation to work effectively. The researchers say that assumptions based on "self-determination theory - creating the conditions so people are intrinsically motivated to do their best work (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) - get significantly better results. The key is to shift assumptions to shift practice: https://t.co/Cy7BIs3hqi. Via @mitsmr.
I paired this with a graphic from Landmark: https://t.co/vaJUje3ZQT
59.8% of non-trauma patients have midline cervical spine tenderness - such non-specific sign.
Seems more likely to mislead than help in trauma secondary survey.

Police dogs are amazing.
They are part of the team, every team member realises that one day they may give their life to save yours. That's why there is such loyalty, affection, and concern for them. Even the injured team is trying to help.
Hoping for a speedy recovery.
⚠️ From what we can see on social media there have been 2 Scottish paramedic suicides in 2 days so, we’re going to highlight the issues they face & why many don’t speak up.
As ever, please read with caution 🧵
Compassionate leadership helps to create psychologically safe working environments. Previous studies on doctors, nurses & midwives have shown that the wellbeing of health & care staff is affected by 8 key factors, organised into 3 core needs 👇 Read more: https://t.co/FUb45jbTRt
I've just watched Channel 5's #InsideTheForce (episode 8, which is all about mental health calls to @ClevelandPolice.
It was largely unnoteworthy, but there was a scene at the end which unloaded literally loads of issues about attitudes, knowledge, partnerships and more.

The best advice I received when I was promoted was from a grouchy old Superintendent.
‘If you have to use your rank to compel someone to do something you’ve failed. People will follow you because they trust you and not because they fear you’.
I remembered that everyday.
If you're a paramedic (or interested in the Covid19 Inquiry at all), I'd highly recommend watching the College of Paramedics' Chief Executive giving evidence at the UK Inquiry yesterday. She starts from 1.21 at the link below.
I feel sure/very much hope that Baroness Hallett will make ambulance-specific criticisms & recommendations for the future. It's hard not to feel particularly aggrieved at how those in the ambulance sector were treated. I'm also still not aware of any healthcare professional other than a paramedic being subjected to fitness to practise proceedings for allegedly delaying care to a patient to don PPE.

There's a growing understanding of the importance of empathy (the ability to understand, share & respond to emotions/perspectives of others) for leaders. For every competency that helps a leader become more empathetic you can draw a line that connects it with a better way of delivering results.
@hacking_hr has produced a leader's "playbook" for empathy. It sets out:
- 9 strategies to build trust and a people-centric culture through empathy
- 7 ways to improve the experience of people at work through empathy
- 10 key actions for empathy-driven success in leadership
- 8 competencies of the empathetic leader
- key insights on the power of cultivating empathetic leadership at work

During last nights rescue at Beck Hole/Goathland and mobile phone from the team was misplaced. If you happen to come across it please let us know so we can arrange collection. Details in the rescue to follow.
Helen Morton will be going the extra mile (well lots of miles) walking the Camino de Santiago next month, raising funds for the Team by sponsorship. Please check out Helen’s Just Giving page and, if you can, please consider supporting her - and the Team!

Watch this exclusive footage of a yacht with one person on board crashing into Newhaven harbour wall and breaking up! The brave winch person from the Coastguard Helicopter managed to rescue the lone sailor but took a battering in the process. Full update and video to follow.
