Reporting on Monday. I can’t shake the intense social anxiety I feel going into every school year. When will administrators realize that in-service is hell on earth for those of us with diagnosed anxiety? When will they just let us do our job and stop making us feel foolish?
Don't think of your new colleague as someone who hasn't finished college and has no classroom experience, think of them as someone who will be assigned to you to train, mentor, and meet with after contractual hours to help them plan for each day.
@jakequery 1. Low salary for education level and 40+ hour work weeks.
2. Daily health and safety risks.
3. Open lack of respect and disdain from society. Everyone has an opinion on your job and couldn't walk a day in your shoes.
@jakequery I don’t get paid enough to do the amount of work that I’m expected to do, which is exacerbated by the amount of politically-driven hate from conservatives being directed toward public ed and everyone in it.
@fritzchem336 My students are assigned a number and their phone goes into a numbered pocket. It stays there for the duration of the period. They get it back on their way out. I will allow them to keep it under extenuating circumstances. I’ve never had a complaint and the parents love it.
@DriesOfficial22@groovy_hoovie @heymrsbond YES! This is my approach. We start on day 1! My colleagues are NOT in agreement… I have to close my door and do what I think is best.
@heymrsbond On behalf of my younger self I would like to comment that these games are so stressful and awful and I always dreaded them. Why are these “get to know you” games necessary? 😭😭😭
@LeeintheLibrary A million times THIS. I have been commenting this everywhere and it seems to make people REALLY upset. Idk why. Teaching IS political. It is unethical to represent the views of some…
my daughter had a teacher that made it clear his side and it was not Democrat. He actually shamed anyone that would vote for 'Bernie and socialism'. so we had discussions just to bring to light the other 'side' so she could make up her own mind. Who is indoctrinating at school?
@heymrsbond Right?! I saw all the comments applauding that teacher and couldn’t help but thinking… shouldn’t our actions be a dead giveaway? Unfortunately, the way that we treat anyone who is not like us is the #1 indicator of political identity.
@MarkoGrasso Our actions give a lot away. I work with a lot of conservative Ts who discriminate against gay Ss, trans Ss, pregnant/parenting teens, addicts, JDs, etc. They don’t ever come out and SAY it, but the students know where they stand.
