@jimstewartson@gtconway3d Republicans in Congress abdicated their power to this psychotic narcissists and we all are suffering for their self serving actions. How they live with themselves is beyond me.
In one of the lowest moments of American politics, Congresswoman Nancy Mace is caught on her own camera saying “fuck you” to a constituent who simply asks her if she’s holding any more town halls.
MAGA is a disease of the mind.
This battle over Abrego Garcia is simple. It doesn't matter that he was here illegally. It doesn't matter if he's a gang member or if he's a wife beater (both of which are disputed). It doesn't matter if you think he deserves to be deported or to be in prison. / thread
Nope.
That statement is nonsense because it drastically overstates the level of dependence and ignores how much China’s economy has diversified over the past two decades.
First, China is not “completely dependent” on exports to the United States. As of 2023, only 14.8% of Chinese exports went to the U.S., down from over 20% just a few years ago. This decline reflects a deliberate strategy by China to reduce reliance on the U.S. by expanding trade with Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the EU. In fact, ASEAN (a group of Southeast Asian nations) and the EU are now among China’s largest trading partners, with ASEAN actually surpassing the U.S. in some years.
Second, China’s economy is no longer primarily export-driven. Domestic consumption, services, and technology are becoming much larger components of its GDP. Beijing has been investing heavily in internal development and innovation to pivot away from export-dependence, especially in the face of tariffs and supply chain tensions with the West.
Third, the claim that “China will be forced, very soon, to come to the table” assumes that China is on the brink of economic collapse without U.S. trade, a claim unsupported by data. China still enjoys a trade surplus with the U.S., maintains extensive global trading relationships, and has built alternative supply chains through agreements like RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership).
Finally, the idea that China is only now “discovering” an American president who stands up to them is revisionist. Every recent administration, Obama, Trump, and Biden, has imposed tariffs, restricted tech transfers, and tightened security reviews of Chinese investments. The difference lies in how they’ve approached China, not whether they’ve stood firm.
In short, this statement wildly exaggerates China’s economic vulnerability, misunderstands global trade dynamics, and recycles talking points that ignore current realities.
@AC360 Supposedly “ grand plan” what does that really mean.
Tank the markets, send shock waves worldwide. Then put a 90 days pause, except with China, it’s all a power game to him.
Worldwide they know this failed president is not to be trusted.
