The Meja massacre was the largest massacre in Kosovo.

Today Kosovo mourns the death of Don Kelmend Spaqi. During the war in 90's he sheltered in his Church "Shna Ndou" in Peja region a lot of civilians and refused the order of a Serbian military for seperating them in Muslims and Christians. 1/3

Today Kosovo marks the 27th anniversary of the #ReçakMassacre, where 45 Albanian civilians were massacred on January 15, 1999.

“They Screamed Until They Died".
15th of January 1999 , 45 ethnic Albanian civilians were killed by Serbian-led security forces in the Kosovar village of Reçak. The massacre sparked international outrage.
The attack on Racak that led to the deaths of 45 ethnic Albanian civilians came at the orders of senior Serbian officials in Belgrade, who then orchestrated a cover-up, according to telephone intercepts by Western governments. In a series of telephone conversations,
Deputy Prime Minister,Nikola Sainovic,and Gen Sreten Lukic of the Interior Ministry expressed concern about international reaction to the assault and discussed how to make the killings look as if they had resulted from a battle between gov. troops and Kosovo Liberation Army.

Pope Leo XIV greeting Ernest Cardinal Simoni, 97 year-old hero of the viciously persecuted Albanian Church, at the end of his General Audience this morning. Cardinal Simoni was tortured and sentenced to death by the Communist authorities for offering Mass for the soul of John F. Kennedy. His sentence was later converted to life imprisonment of hard labor. Communist authorities offered to free him if he renounced his faith. He didn’t and after 28 years of penal labour he was eventually freed. He was made a Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2016, choosing the motto: “My Immaculate Heart will Triumph.”
