@PuckBenderx93@LeafsRundown Not necessarily. The style Hiller has them playing really seems to emphasize moving the puck up the ice quickly. IMO, that aggression is what led to mistakes, which isn’t totally bad thing. Perhaps that still falls on the players, but I think individually, they are capable.
@BobBark11503563@nylanderthews It’s still just 10 periods into the season. Nonetheless, I would still be overjoyed if this team even made the playoffs. I believe leafs fans should adjust their expectations accordingly.
@DireRavennn@joeyferg This fanbase has to temper their expectations lmao. This team would be lucky to just make the playoffs… and you should be celebrating if we do. This was known before that puck dropped.
@BobBark11503563@nylanderthews Shouldn’t this create more excitement then? The team looks relatively good compared to last year and hasn’t spent much time together.
@dzdaddy_@nylanderthews Exactly. Doesn’t even feel like the team is playing badly. Lots of bright spots and still just 10 periods into the season lol. Major glaring issue has just been some blown coverages in the front of the net. Thatll get cleaned up. Might have to make a move on D tho.
@MikeBartner@AlexJames992 Matthews finished 2nd in scoring in the whole league. Thats probably the most impressive feat any of these players listed have accomplished. not that I think he should be 1, but a pretty clear 2 (though I don’t mind shaef being there).
@DutchMatrix6IX@NYLANDER4MVP I think it’s more so that they don’t know what to do with McKenna. Can’t put him on the 3rd line and Cowan just looked great on the 2nd line shift.
@NYLANDER4MVP Roslovic just sticks out like a sore thumb in that role. Kind of unfortunate they didn’t land the Marchenko deal before they made that signing. Something tells me they wouldn’t have signed him if that trade was made earlier this summer.
@EmphaticGamer@RamsFanInCanada@TalkeyHockey Didn’t exactly look any better in the pre-season tbh. Leafs fans have to admit, his lack of speed would not thrive under Hiller’s new regime. Marchenko is one of the fastest players in the league. This is what people should be focusing on. Not the points, analytics, or contract.
@dzdaddy_@TMLOak23 Worth noting that Knies likely isn’t a great fit for this fast-paced Hiller system. Maybe they were worried if he played out the season, he would struggle and deteriorate his value. The timing of this trade is likely intentional.
@MnHockeyEnjoyer@bigheadhcky Knies could very well produce less than he did last year. And tbh, he hasn’t really added much to his game since he came to the league. First year he produced less, but also played less minutes with Matthews/top 6.
@MnHockeyEnjoyer@bigheadhcky Matthews doesn’t have a contract beyond 2 years (at which he’ll be over 30). The age difference between marchenko and Knies is hugely exaggerated on this site rn. People also assume that players automatically have a linear path to improvement, which is obviously not always true
@MnHockeyEnjoyer@bigheadhcky The difference in cap will become less relevant with how fast it’s rising. Also think it’s important to note that Jim Hiller has a very clear style that I do not think Knies will thrive in. Marchenko would. This is a big part of it.
