@hankgreen Like when reporting Near Earth Objects, the media loves obscure comparisons, because we struggle with their size in our minds eye. Comparisons like half a giraffe, washing machine, or school bus! Unorthodox units perhaps, but gets you closer to the answer!

@hankgreen I like comparing them on relative scales to something more accessible. A beach’s worth of sand. Or 5:1 sheep-to-people ratio in NZ.

Or change the unit to something more manageable/accessible. A meters worth of femtometers is a big number but not a large value!

Went on a birding walk today and learned so much! Ran across a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet AND a Hutton’s Vireo (lifer!). Can you tell them apart from my photos? 😉 It makes no damn sense. Compels me, though. 🕵️‍♀️📸
