โBrain injury is learning to live in a brain that feels like it belongs to a stranger.โ ๐๐ง
Many living with #TBI, #ABI and suspected #CTE feel this every single day.
The emotional impact of brain injury is often invisible โ but incredibly real.
Together weโre stronger ๐
Understanding Your Brain โ The Occipital Lobes
The occipital lobes process visual information and help us recognise shapes, colours, movement and distance.
Damage can affect reading, vision, balance and confidence โ often through invisible symptoms others may not understand.
Understanding Your Brain โ The Frontal Lobes
The frontal lobes control planning, emotions, decision making, behaviour, concentration and speech.
Damage can affect relationships, work, emotional regulation and everyday life โ often through invisible symptoms others may not see.
Many veterans live with invisible brain injuries caused by blast exposure, concussions & repetitive head trauma.
TBI and possible CTE deserve far greater awareness, support and research.
Invisible injuries are still injuries.

๐ง Understanding Your Brain โ The Cerebellum
The cerebellum controls balance, coordination, movement and fine motor skills.
Damage can affect walking, speech, eye movements, balance and everyday activities โ often with invisible symptoms others may not #CTE#TBI#BrainHealth
Horse riding comes with real risk โ including brain injury ๐ง ๐
TBI = one major impact
RHI = repeated smaller hits over time
The culture of โjust get back onโ needs to change.
Recognise it. Respect it. Recover from it.

Understanding Your Brain โ Part 2: The Brain Stem
The brain stem controls vital automatic functions including breathing, heart rate, swallowing, sleep and balance.
Even small injuries can have a major impact on daily life and many symptoms remain invisible to others.
๐ง NEW SERIES: Understanding Your Brain
This is the first image in our new series explaining brain anatomy and how different areas of the brain affect memory, speech, emotions, movement, vision and more.
Brain injuries can impact every person differently
Throughout June weโll be raising awareness around:
๐ง Brain anatomy & brain injuries
๐ฌMenโs mental health
๐ Armed Forces Day
โ ๏ธTBI, ABI & possible CTE
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งSupport for families & carers
Together we can break stigma around invisible injuries.
#BrainInjury#MensHealthWeek#CTE
Living with #CTE or brain injury can feel like living in two worlds.
One where you smile, show up & function.
And another where you recover in silence for hours or days afterwards.
People often only see the first. ๐๐ง
Together weโre stronger ๐

Every mile matters ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐ง
Brain injury can happen in seconds
but last a lifetime
Crashes + repeated impacts matter
Helmets protect your skullโnot fully your brain
#Cycling#BrainInjury#Concussion#CTE
A brain injury can happen in seconds. ๐ง
Recovery can take weeks, months or years.
Some people may never fully recover.
The impact of #TBI, #ABI and suspected #CTE is often invisible โ but life-changing.
Awareness, prevention & support matter.
South African Patrick Lambie retired from rugby because of the number of concussions he received.
We need to shine more light on this topic, because the more I educate myself on it, the more terrifying it becomes.
A landmark 2023 study published in Acta Neuropathologica examined the donated brains of 31 former rugby union players and found evidence of CTE in 21 cases (68%).
Of those affected, 62% played exclusively at the amateur level, and the risk increased by 14% for every additional year of play.
Player welfare should absolutely more important than winning a damn rugby game.

A huge thank you to @richbradbeer for kindly donating some of his incredible original rugby drawings to support our fundraising event โค๏ธ๐
Some of the pieces are even signed, making them very special prizes for our raffle/auction on the day.
We CAN make sport safer.
โ Awareness
โ Early recognition
โ Reduced exposure
CTE isnโt inevitable โ prevention matters.
Letโs protect brains, not just performance.

Modern footballs weigh the sameโbut travel faster = greater impact
Heading + collisions + repeated impacts all matter
โPlay onโ shouldnโt come before brain health
