LEADERS! #1minwalk2work THROWBACK! Even if you have been doing this work for 5 YRS, 10 YRS, or 20 YRS...always remember that it could be their FIRST and ONLY with you. When we create VALUE and CONNECTION they won’t want it to end. #leadfromwhereyouare#hackingleadership
LEADERS!!!!!! #1minwalk2work THROWBACK!!! NEW doesn’t automatically mean BETTER. FIRST DAY TEACHER TIRED is often less about being TIRED from the FIRST DAY and more about being TIRED from everything that leads up to the FIRST DAY.

Remember the quote we often hear for students, "when a flower doesn't bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower". This is also true for administrators, teachers and staff. Never underestimate the importance of a positive culture.
As we focus on upcoming teacher appreciation. I know some may not think adults needs appreciation. But we all like to be recognized for the hard work we do. & appreciate literally means to increase value. Effective leaders value and increase the value of their staff
If a 2nd grade word problem on a standardized test is written at a 3rd or 4th grade reading level, then you aren’t testing for math, you’re testing for above grade level reading. And doesn't reflect student knowledge of actual 2nd grade math curriculum.
As Teacher Appreciation week nears, understand we have a teacher shortage because we have an attrition crisis. Teachers are leaving in droves because they don’t feel supported, valued, & they are simply burnt out. We need to take care of our teachers more than one week a year.
As an admin, I loved visiting classrooms & watching teachers in action. When I left, I would leave a post it note on their desk telling them how lucky their students were to have them & share something I learned or enjoyed about the visit. I called them
"Post-its of Praise"
Yes, students need rules, but even more so, they need routines, boundaries, high expectations, and responsibilities. The first doesn't require relationships, just enforcement, but the rest depend on a strong relationship to be effective.
Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
Happy Friday! Teachers, NEVER let anyone make you feel guilty for enjoying your time off from school. You pour out your heart & soul on a daily basis! You're human, you have to recharge! Enjoy your weekend!
