An important reminder that genocide may be 'constrained by the circumstances' - it is always a decision, and therefore affected by all the vagaries that affect human and especially political decision-making. The idea that genocide involves a singular, absolute and unchanging intent takes it out of history and makes it unlikely to be identified. Even the Holocaust was not like that. But viewing intent in this way is good for genocide denial.

Although never spoken in the film, Private Joker's real name is J.T. Davis (as seen on the back of his PT sweats). He was named after Specialist James T. Davis, the first U.S. casualty of the Vietnam War. He was killed in action on December 22, 1961.

Brett McGurk’s turn to rewrite history, and claim that by April 2024 Biden had had it with Netanyahu and was close to a “full break” with the Israeli prime minister. However, by April 1, there were already some 33,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, a horrific number on its own, most killed by U.S. supplied weapons. This places McGurk’s assertion that Biden was appalled and reaching a breaking point on Israeli actions in perspective. By January 2025, when Biden left office, there would be somewhere in the range of 47,000 dead in Gaza, meaning that some 14,000 more Palestinians would be killed after the president’s alleged willingness to break with the Israelis. All these officials now realize they are open to accusations of complicity under the 1948 Genocide Convention and are trying to backtrack: https://t.co/HTXJRaYg04
I wrote about the sinister logic of 'permanent security' as it pertains to Gaza for @RStatecraft a couple months ago.
The fact that Gaza has been utterly destroyed and made unlivable...
As always, credit to @dirkmoses for introducing me to the concept.

That is part of the story. Bloomberg had a comprehensive report on how and why the U.S. massacred more than 100 school kids.
So the answer to my question is, no, the U.S. military cannot differentiate between schools and legit targets. Moreover, the entire war is a crime to begin with, and the use of double-tap strikes and dual-use targeting shows the Pentagon deliberately attacks civilians.
In my D.C. neighborhood there's a beautiful park with cascading fountains. In the far southeast corner, there's a bronze statue of an American president.
James Buchanan?!
