I am deeply disgusted and appalled by the University of Auckland.

In their new Department of Cancer Sciences — heavily funded by New Zealand taxpayers — they are calling for expressions of interest in an Associate Head Māori role.

Cancer doesn't discriminate — it devastates New Zealanders of every race and background.

Yet this department, focused on cancer research, education, and clinical practice, is prioritising race-based leadership to "embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Mātauranga Māori, and equity principles."

They want strategic Māori leadership, partnerships with iwi, kaupapa Māori approaches, and a "mana-enhancing" environment — all while the disease itself demands the best science, not racial positions.

This is offensive, morally bankrupt, and a betrayal of patients fighting for their lives.

Taxpayers should not be funding separatism and identity politics in life-saving cancer research and care.

It puts identity politics ahead of merit, excellence, and equal care for all Kiwis.

Enough of this divisive agenda in our universities and health sciences.

We need one standard for all New Zealanders — no race-based roles in cancer care or research.

Te Kira Lawrence to Stand in Napier Electorate

New Zealand First has confirmed Te Kira Lawrence as the new candidate for the Napier Electorate.

Lawernce was previously named to stand in the East Cape.
Lawrence is a sitting Napier City Councillor, dedicated community leader, and experienced public servant who has built her career around serving people, strengthening communities, and delivering practical results.

With more than two decades of experience in administration, stakeholder engagement, governance, and community relations, Lawrence brings a strong record of getting things done. She currently serves as an Outreach Advisor in the New Zealand First Leader's Office, working closely with communities, stakeholders, and Members of Parliament to ensure local voices are heard and reflected in decision-making.

In 2025, Lawrence was elected to the Napier City Council, where she serves on several key committees, including Risk and Assurance, Community-Led Initiatives, flood resilience, and regional waste planning. She also holds the council's multicultural portfolio and represents the council on the Waipureku Waitangi Charitable Trust, helping strengthen community partnerships and inclusive engagement across Hawke's Bay.

Her earlier career included roles in health, business management, architecture, and the wool industry, giving her broad experience across both the public and private sectors.

Imagine where $35 million could have gone.

While MBIE staff are striking for higher pay, the department is under investigation over $35 million in waste and allegations senior officials misled their Minister.

That $35 million works out to more than $6,000 per employee.

MBIE has a leadership culture where millions can disappear, accountability is nowhere to be seen, and taxpayers are expected to keep picking up the tab.

Before asking for more money, maybe it's time to ask what happened to the money they already had.

Over the weekend, I was stoked to learn that we have a NZF candidate in the Tamaki electorate, and it’s someone I met a few years back at the 2023 convention.

John Ryan originally trained as an orthopaedic surgeon though segued into analysing medical data and decided that was more his thing. He now has 30+ years experience in this field.

During the COVID response, things were not adding up for him (being a data analyst and all), so he started to look a bit deeper. Having been a loyal National supporter previously, he was disheartened to see them standing by Labour and not refuting any discrepancies. Then he saw Winston Peters walk amongst the protestors at parliament.

When I first met John, we had very open and honest discussions about our experiences during COVID, being that we are in similar fields. His wife is also a medical professional. These common experiences and the awareness that something wasn’t quite right during that time is how we both found ourselves at that 2023 NZF convention.

He will make an excellent MP for Tamaki and I’m happy to be able to give two ticks to NZF come November 7.

Cheating democracy?!

Jordan exposed a loophole on The Platform that allowed councils to rush through permanent co-governance agreements before the new RMA laws.
Then the Government acted!

Now those agreements will not be carried into the replacement legislation. A significant win for democratic accountability!

But the fight isn't over. The Government now plans to replace them with new "Iwi Relationship Agreements." We haven't seen the details yet, so trust we'll be scrutinising every clause to make sure there's no special treatment.
