Power has no permanent friends. It only has temporary beneficiaries.
The greatest political mistake ordinary citizens make is believing that loyalty to those in power guarantees protection. It does not. History is filled with governments that abandoned yesterday's loyalists the moment they became inconvenient.
If those in power can ignore the law, dismiss public outrage, misuse public resources, or turn against former allies, what makes you believe your unquestioning support will earn lasting protection?
Never become so devoted to a politician that you stop thinking for yourself. Leaders come and go. The consequences of bad governance remain with ordinary citizens.
Support policies because they improve your life not because you've been recruited into a personality cult. Defend principles, not personalities. Demand integrity, not propaganda. Insist on accountability, not excuses.
The most valuable gift citizens can give any government is not applause. It is scrutiny. Power that is never questioned eventually forgets who it is meant to serve.
