Dear Fellow Citizens,
Today, 5 August, serves as a solemn reminder of how a nation can descend into instability when extremist forces, aided by power-hungry actors and anti-Bangladesh interests, succeed in exploiting moments of national uncertainty.

We believe that on this day in 2024, a combination of domestic and foreign conspiracies severely disrupted Bangladesh's democratic continuity. In our view, the consequences have extended far beyond political instability, creating long-term challenges across nearly every sector of the state.

The deterioration of law and order, the loss of lives - including police personnel and countless civilians - the erosion of economic confidence, stagnation in foreign investment, declining business activity, and the growing hardships faced by farmers, workers, teachers, public servants, students, and ordinary citizens have become undeniable realities. We have also witnessed mounting challenges within the country's public healthcare system. These crises underscore the indispensable importance of democratic stability, accountable governance, and strong state institutions.

With profound respect, we remember all those who lost their lives during the nationwide violence of July and August 2024- political activists, members of the police, and countless innocent civilians. Every life lost was a tragedy, and every grieving family deserves our deepest sympathy.

Yet, we do not lose hope.

We remain confident that the people of Bangladesh possess the wisdom and resilience to distinguish truth from falsehood. History has repeatedly shown that the people of this country have stood firmly for democracy, development, secular values, and national progress.
Bangladesh Awami League will continue to work alongside the people to restore the path of democracy, peace, development, and prosperity. We firmly believe that through national unity, patience, and the collective strength of our citizens, Bangladesh will once again move forward toward stability, growth, and shared prosperity.

Bangladesh is becoming increasingly unsafe due to political violence. The international community must speak out against these alleged human rights violations and condemn all forms of politically motivated violence.

Families aligned with Awami League continue to face arrests, violence, intimidation, and killings amid growing allegations of impunity and political persecution.

Bloody Ukhiya: The Death of a Mother, or the Blunt Reflection of an Unjust State?

Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar - once known for tourism, border politics, and the Rohingya crisis - is once again making headlines over allegations of horrific political violence.

On Saturday night, May 16, 2026, around 9:30 PM, an incident unfolded in the Thaingkhali-Thaipalong area of Ukhiya that has shaken not just one family, but the entire community. According to reports published in various media outlets, leaders and activists of the #BNP were accused of abducting Chhatra League activist Abdur Rahman over the slogan “Joy Bangla.” When his mother, Chhaiyada Khatun (50), attempted to rescue him, she reportedly came under attack. She later died from her severe injuries.

A political slogan — “Joy Bangla.”

A phrase deeply tied to Bangladesh’s Liberation War history. If those words can now become a threat to someone’s life, then this is no isolated incident; rather, it symbolizes a terrifying collapse of political tolerance within the state.

From a legal and political perspective, the incident raises allegations of several serious crimes:
- First, intimidation and persecution based on political identity or ideology.
- Second, abduction.
- Third, a coordinated assault on a woman and a mother.
- Fourth, death resulting from that assault.

In other words, this single event appears to contain a complete blueprint of violence.

Perhaps the cruelest aspect is that at the center of this tragedy was a mother.

She was not a frontline political activist, nor a leader of rallies or demonstrations. She was simply a mother trying to save her child - and she lost her life doing so. Such a scene is shameful for any civilized society.

The cries of Abdur Rahman’s sister after losing her mother have already spread across social media. The atmosphere of grief, fear, and anger now surrounding Ukhiya reflects not just the tragedy of one family, but the growing insecurity felt by ordinary citizens.

Ukhiya has long struggled with instability. For years, various reports have raised allegations involving weapons, drugs, extortion, and violence surrounding the Rohingya camps.

Political rivalry in the region has also frequently turned violent. As a result, ordinary people are increasingly asking: is the state truly capable of maintaining law and order?

The government’s responsibility is not merely to issue statements. It must ensure impartial investigations, bring perpetrators to justice regardless of political affiliation, and take a visible stand against political violence. Otherwise, every new death will become just another statistic.

This incident in Ukhiya once again forces the nation to confront an old and painful question:

Is Bangladesh becoming a state where a person’s political identity determines whether they are safe?

The answer to that question - written in the blood of a mother - now remains a debt owed to the entire nation.

At least 400+ mothers are grieving their biggest loss as a preventable measles outbreak killed their children. Thousands are toiling hard, spending sleepless nights to help their hospitalised children win the battle for life from measles. Millions are in a frantic race to keep their children unaffected by measles.

Such agony, pain, suffering, grief, and anguish of millions of mothers testify to the deadly outcome of a murderous health policy pursued by the Yunus regime that deprived children of vaccination, fueling the outbreak.

Bangladesh prevented such deaths for decades, prioritising vaccination, a reminder that ensuring the right to vaccination is a responsibility of the state.

No compensation can fill up these empty mother lapses.

Ending impunity to that Yunus made a death spree is the least the state can ensure.⁩

Warm New Year greetings to all Bengalis, Bangla-speaking people, and citizens of Bangladesh.

May the new year bring prosperity among us and wipe away all decay and suffering. For the people of Bangladesh, relief is now extremely urgent. For nearly two years, a bulldozer of extremism, terrorism, mob violence, land grabbing, rape, and killings has been running over the people of the country. Regardless of party, opinion, class, age, or education, people from all levels of society are suffering.

Through Yunus’s seizure of power and a so-called election, the country has been turned into a land ruled by mobs. As crises continue one after another, people’s lives are being devastated, yet those entrusted with running the government remain focused only on serving their own interests.

Due to the energy crisis, from hardworking farmers to large industries, the entire economy of the country is suffering. However, because of the irresponsibility of those in charge and a mindset of self-destruction, the suffering has multiplied several times. Even though infrastructure capable of storing oil reserves is fully ready, leaving it unused is not just foolishness — it is a deliberate act of causing hardship to people. By using the Maheshkhali Single Point Mooring system, not only could nine days have been saved in oil imports, but storage capacity could also have been increased. Yet, simply because the project was initiated under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, it has not been made operational even after two years. Instead, loan instalments are being repaid while losing the opportunity to earn 800 crore taka annually.

Amid this crisis, another terrifying crisis is ongoing, the primary victims of which are our young children. In 2025, due to the failure of the illegal Yunus government to vaccinate more than half of the children against measles, within just a year — and within the span of a single month — hundreds of children died.

Who bears this responsibility? During the Awami League government, vaccination coverage was nearly universal. In 2025, it dropped to 59%. Due to the negligence of the Yunus government, a disease that was nearly eradicated has now taken the form of an epidemic in the country.

At the same time, the current health minister claimed, using fabricated information, that vaccinations had not been administered for the past eight years. To this day, the current government has completely failed to control the measles epidemic. All the deaths and suffering of children caused by this crisis lie with the current BNP government and the illegal Yunus government. People will never forgive them for this killing of children. One day, they will have to face justice for these acts.

The crisis does not end here. The mob attacks that began in August 2024 have still not stopped. Recently, in Kushtia, a man was beaten to death by extremist militants identifying themselves as “Touhidi Janata.” The rule of law did not exist during Yunus’s time, and it still does not. The country remains under the control of extremists. The same extremist groups that carried out the Ramna Batamul bombings in 2001, killing 10 people, spread panic during last year’s Pohela Boishakh, and attempted to replace Bengali traditions like the Mangal Shobhajatra with Middle Eastern cultural practices — those groups are now even more powerful.

Therefore, I call upon ordinary people to stand against extremism, fundamentalism, and mob rule. Today, the people of Bangladesh do not have a fearless mind; our heads have been bowed before foreign powers, and our knowledge is restrained under the black flags of militants. This stagnation must be broken. Everything that seeks to destroy our independence and our history must be erased.

Let us raise our voices together in unison and eliminate fundamentalism from Bangladesh. Once again, Happy Bengali New Year 1433.

The horrific picture of rape and abuse of women and children in Bangladesh: Child rape increased by 75% under the Yunus government.

Violence against women and children has increased dramatically under Yunus's rule. The rape rate has increased by about 75% in the last year. Women in Bangladesh today are not safe even in their own homes due to a lack of justice, inaction of the law enforcement agencies, and social degradation.

A desperate father in Dhaka said his young daughter was raped by a man in Daylight. The child is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. I work in a hotel and my Wife works at people's homes. The girl was alone at home. At this point, the bad guy of the area destroyed my girl's life.

This is not an isolated incident. According to the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS), 663 women and children were raped in the country from January to September this year. Of these, 397 are children. More than 73 incidents of rapes occur every month.

According to the police headquarters, 1,440 cases were registered in January, 1,430 in February, 2,054 in March, 2,089 in April, 2,087 in May, 1,933 in June, 2,097 in July, and 1,904 in August. In eight months, a total of 15,034 cases related to violence against women and children were filed.

Recently, a student of Comilla University was killed after being raped. In the same month, a mentally unstable woman was allegedly picked up and raped in Chandpur. A theatre worker was gang-raped at a resort in Gazipur.

Dhaka University crime analyst, Md. Touhidul Haque said crimes are increasing due to the lack of speedy trials in rape cases. Negligence in investigation and delay in trial are emboldening the rapists.

According to the Ain o Salish Kendra(ASK), 527 rape cases were reported in the first eight months of this year. Of these, 266 are children. After the rape, 26 people were killed, and 6 committed suicide. There are 435 cases.

According to the Women's Council, 223 women and girls were abused in August. Of these, 115 were victims of rape and murder.

According to the Human Rights Culture Foundation, 47 rape cases in August increased to 53 in September. Of these, 13 were gang rapes and 3 were murders after rape.

The successive incidents of rape, murder, and suicide prove that Bangladesh has become extremely unsafe for women and children due to the failure of the Yunus government. There is fear and panic in society. If immediate action is not taken, the situation will worsen.

Every woman in Bangladesh has the right to a life free from fear, violence, and injustice.

Yunus regime: Bangladesh has become a haven for criminals. Kidnappings have more than doubled, and mob terror has shaken the country.

Crimes such as abduction and mob lynching are on the rise in Bangladesh. Experts say that the weakness of the current political regime and the lack of an effective role of the administration are largely responsible for this terrible picture.

According to the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS), 715 people were kidnapped in the eight months from January to August 2025. However, this number was only 340 people in 2024. That's more than double the number of kidnappings in a year.

The year 2024 saw a total of 642 kidnappings. The month-wise analysis shows that 51 people were abducted in January, 43 in February, 51 in March, 55 in April, 50 in May, 31 in June, 32 in July and 27 in August.

In the first eight months, the average monthly abduction rate was 42.5. But in the same period of 2025, the average increased to 89.38 people, which is more than double the last year. In July alone, 109 people were kidnapped, a record for the highest number of kidnappings in a single month in the last six years.

On the other hand, not only kidnapping, but also mob lynching has taken a terrible form. More than 650 people have been killed by mobs in the past 13 months. Due to the negligence of the law enforcement agencies and the culture of justicelessness and administrative failure, people are taking the law into their hands, resulting in the loss of innocent lives.

According to a survey, about 80 percent of the country's people are now worried about their safety. They believe the current regime and administration have completely failed to protect the citizens.

Significantly, in the five years before Yunus took power, there were an average of 450 kidnappings a year, about 35 a month. However, during the tenure of the Yunus government, this number increased to an average of 89.38 persons per month, which is more than double.

Is Bangladesh turning into a crime state?
The current situation indicates that Bangladesh is now facing deep insecurity. The failure of the Yunus government and the inefficiency of the administration are clearly visible behind this uncontrolled increase in crime. The government, formed with the oath to protect the lives and properties of the people, has completely failed today. Abduction, murder, mob lynching – Bangladesh has become a haven for criminals.

A state fails when its citizens do not feel safe. And today's Bangladesh is a reflection of that failed state.

The lives of minorities under the Yunus regime: Fear of attacks and vandalism of idols before worship.

The current situation in Bangladesh is a new threat at a time of fundamentalist rule and ongoing persecution of minorities. Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, begins on September 28. This time, there is no festival spirit in the puja; most Hindus have expressed concern.

Similar to last year, minority Hindus are once again facing a dilemma regarding the organising of puja festival. Minorities in Bangladesh are in danger now that the secular Awami League government fell last year. There have been more than 2,600 incidents of communal violence in the previous year. Since the military-backed coup last year, there have been more than 2,000 sectarian attacks in the country between August 4 and August 20.

Fundamentalists have ruled Bangladesh, a country known for its non-communal spirit, since the government of Yunus took power. More than 70 people were killed in the communal violence. Today, the non-communal Bangladesh poses a threat to the violent future of fundamentalists.

There have been four incidents of vandalism at temples and idols in the past week. The law enforcers are making bizarre comments, claiming that the idols were broken in mid-air without apprehending the criminals. The government is playing a silent role in these matters instead of ensuring the security of minorities.

The Yunus government has turned Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal into a political farce: built on lies and used against democracy.

After the collapse of democracy in Bangladesh on 5 August 2024, the country's most historic political party, the Bangladesh Awami League and its leadership came under severe repression. The president of the party and 5-time prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, whose father led the freedom struggle, was charged with crimes against humanity under the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Act, which has become an ugly farce of history.

ICT is being used to suppress political opponents:

On 25 March 2010, the Sheikh Hasina-led government reconstituted the International Crimes Tribunal to try the war criminals of the 1971 Liberation War. This tribunal was a historic step in the trial of the genocidal Razakars.

But the present Yunus government is using the tribunal oppositely as a tool of political vendetta against the Awami League and its leaders and activists.

Political interference in administration and judiciary:

• The chief justice was forced to resign, and a BNP-allied judge was appointed.

• Tajul Islam, who was the lawyer for the 1971 war criminals and is known as a Jamaat supporter, was appointed as the chief prosecutor of ICT. With this appointment, the impartiality of the tribunal is completely questioned.

Legally unsubstantiated allegations: There was no "genocide" in the 2024 movement:

There was no war or ethnic cleansing in the country in July-August 2024. Instead, it was the result of political tensions after the quota reform movement, in which there was active participation of militant and extremist groups in some parts.

• The security forces acted within the law, and many of those killed were killed by sniper fire, which the police do not use; it is illegal and unrealistic to blame the government for this.

• According to the law enforcement agency's data, 44 police officers lost their lives, and more than 1000 were injured. However, in this case, the police murderers have been given impunity, which is a violation of the right to justice.

International confusion based on false information:

• According to the information sent by the Yunus government to the United Nations, 1400 people have been killed, but this number is unsubstantiated and questionable.

• The investigative report (Prothom Alo) found that at least 52 of the 834 "movement martyrs" listed by the government died at other times or in accidents, whose names were included in the false martyr list.

Violent attacks and killings on Awami League:

In the first week after the fall of the government, 500 + Awami League leaders and activists were killed, it was planned and gruesome. The killings have not stopped, but the current illegitimate government is exonerating these killers.

The responsibility of the international community to restore democracy:

The people of Bangladesh want democracy and justice, but that must be achieved through a legitimate, transparent, and internationally acceptable judicial system.

Currently, the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) Bangladesh has become a kangaroo court under the Yunus government, where the minimum conditions of legal process, evidence, and justice are not met.

The international community should conduct an on-the-ground investigation and take practical steps to restore true democracy and justice in Bangladesh without relying on misleading information disseminated by the Yunus government.

Today, when an anti-liberation clique wants to change history by misusing the law to eliminate pro-liberation forces, it is time for the international community and the country's conscious people to wake up. Bangladesh believes in democracy and justice, not in the kangaroo court of an illegitimate, biased government, but in the proper application of the law.

#DUCSU ‘ Election ’ Sparks Outrage: If Yunus Govt Can’t Hold a Fair Student Union Election, How Will National Elections Be Free & Fair?

The DUCSU election held yesterday at Dhaka University created deep controversy and anger. The students have rejected the election, calling it a well-planned 'selection'. Candidates of Chhatra Shibir, an extremist Islamist organisation, won most of the key posts, 12 out of 9 editorial posts, including vice president (VP), general secretary (GS) and assistant general secretary (AGS), in the election directly sponsored by the Yunus government.

There were allegations of irregularities during the polling. Voters told they get their ballots pre-sealed at several centers. Various student organisations accused the election of rigging. Before announcing the results, Chhatra Dal nominated VP candidate Abidul Islam Khan Abid, independent candidate Umama Fatema, and others announced they boycotted the polls. With only 25-30% attendance among students, the administration claims 78% turnout—an exaggerated and unconvincing claim.

This situation clearly shows that the Yunus government wants to establish its own close-knit groups and religious extremists over a neutral, participatory, and democratic process. Such irregular and biased elections in a traditional democratic institution like DUCSU raise serious concerns about future national elections.

If the government is unable to hold even a single student union election fairly but instead actively manipulates religious extremists to win it, there is no hope that any national elections under this government will be free, fair, or acceptable.

The Yunus government's divisive politics, sympathy for anti-liberation forces, and patronage of Islamic fundamentalists are pushing Bangladesh from an inclusive, progressive state to a religious state based on extremism.

On September 5 in Faridpur, the shrine of Nurul Haque (Nural Pagla) was attacked, his body dragged from the grave and burned in public, leaving one dead and over 50 injured, while soldiers and police stood by.

Across Bangladesh, more than 80 shrines have been attacked, over 100 people killed in mob violence, and over 2,400 assaults on minorities recorded—yet the government’s response remains the same: words without action.

As human rights activist Nur Khan warns, “They want power. The people are forgotten.” Political scientist Dr. Sabbir Ahmed calls it “theater,” while Dr. Zahed-ur-Rahman explains that extremists are deliberately kept alive “for future use.”

Condemnations do not stop violence. A state that speaks but does not act becomes a state that cannot protect—and Bangladesh’s interim government now stands accused of being exactly that: a paper tiger of condemnations.
