@MrsJessMoore And by then, our brain has been so hard wired that it is extremely hard to break those habits. Great way t end your post, "It will need to be revisited and developed throughout a student’s education in order to create adults who are truly tech literate".
@MrsJessMoore I like the part about "weighing the pros and cons of new technology isn’t always easy". And thinking about it, sometimes it's not until years later that we totally realize the cons, and that the cons outweigh the pros -- thinking about back pain, eye strain, etc.
@LawlerMister another thing that I think will continue to hurt the argument of printing out texts on paper for consumption is how it is killing trees and affecting the planet. How many kids will eventually use the climate change defense for not reading books or printing something out?
"to make the assumption that technology is always a friend to culture is, at the late hour, stupidity plain and simple" #NOT#ed109 https://t.co/UBJxbSNpXM
@KatyHandfelt I for the first time in years was outside this past weekend, barefoot in the grass running around and it was fantastic. I believe the last time I did something like that was before I had a miniature computer in my pocket. I hope I can do it again soon.
@ChelseaReece7 I think very important to remember: "It’s still humans who are in control of the technology and will determine whether the 'advancements' technology enables will make a positive or negative impact on our world." !
fantasy world where we choose to only share our "good" times into a void. The more we value our life on social media the less we value our life in the real world with real people.
I believe I could find numerous photos I have posted on social media where I appear to be happy but in reality was not happy at all. I can recall many more times where I scrolled through social media envious of how great everyone else's lives were. #ed109

perception of life. It's hard to remember sometimes that social media is not real life. There are news stories that are real (and some not real) and the few times humans bare their souls and share real true personal thoughts/feelings... other than that, it is a curated ...
@MrsJessMoore Absolutely. And I think your point about public criticism is very valid... while it is important to be exposed to criticism, and hopefully I can help them handle it -- social media may not be the best place for them to begin to navigate it.
This here Twitter is a technology I have been struggling with for a long time. For business, for artists, for news it is a great piece of technology -- but it is also a wasteland and I find it making me angry and while also constantly distracting me. #NOT#ed109
But on the other hand there are plenty of other ways, if it is unique, impressive, and powerful to get your art out into the world without the help of social media.
I struggle today after watching the TED talk about quitting social media, about whether or not I should tell students to get on social media to promote themselves as artists. Again, on one hand, it can be an incredible place to be seen and recognized and even inspired...
@MrsJessMoore I would think that a majority of Americans think their car is a necessity -- perhaps for some it really is -- and while I currently could theoretically live without a car in my day to day life, I don't know how I would feel if it wasn't there as a security blanket.
@Sophie_Gray27 Something that seems incredibly easy and makes so much sense, but I don't know if any of my teachers K-12 incorporated was how you brought up this connects the subject matter to real life experiences. Sounds like a wonderful piece of technology!
@KatyHandfelt It's so incredibly easy to explore the world from the comfort of your classroom. I love you wanting to use it as a way to increase students' global awareness beyond their local community.
