I was today years old when I learned that a basic multiplication chart can be used to find equivalent fractions.
This is definitely going in notebooks this year. #edchat#mathchat
@LawlerMister Then perhaps there is a selection of books with closely related themes that students may also read and on paper comparisons of the two stories. In this case bookflix is a comprehension tool and not a phonics based one.
@LawlerMister Had similar experiences with bookflix. I would like to see Bookflix used as a supplement to class readings. Example: do a class read aloud of a book, then during rotation time kids get to interact with that same story on bookflix. Almost as a comprehension or rereading strategy.
@TomRuden2 Thanks. Im trying to get better at using student ideas to guide lessons. It isn't my strong suit. I need to understand that we can have an end goal in mind but reach it in ways that are flexible and meaningful to my students.
The reports of the conditions for migrant children at the border should shock all of our consciences. Those created in the image of God should be treated with dignity and compassion, especially those seeking refuge from violence back home. We can do better than this.
@TomRuden2 I like the part where you focused on teaching students about rights of privacy. I think the idea of privacy has changed so much with the growth of social media platforms. This is definitely something I will need to think about discussing with my future students.
@litt_strength@coachgibson70 Speed training for seven-year-olds is called tag, and itโs the best seven-year-old speed training in the history of the world.
@ChelseaReece7 @TomRuden2@Forbes I feel that through human history we have tended to exaggerate the effects of new technology over and over again. I think technology changes how we express our values but would argue our values were always there and that people won't change as much as we think they will.
@CJF57327273 I think this article is interesting in contrast to the book Technology Matters. I feel like it would argue that our American values of individual spending and luxury already existed. SM only emphasized it. Our values shape the way the tech becomes used and builds on it.
Social circles have always influenced spending. Seeing the best our friends have every time we use social media can make mentally justifying luxury purchases easier - even if our bank account balance hasn't changed. Boats > retirement right? #ed109
