DSS RELEASES CARPENTER MARWANA CLEARED OF TERROR LINKS; PAYS N3 MILLION INITIAL COMPENSATION

The Department of State Services, DSS, has released a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana after investigations cleared him of links to terrorist activities.

Marwana, a native of Katsina, was arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

A DSS investigation panel found no evidence linking him to the membership, financing, logistics or operations of the Ansaru terrorist group.

Following the findings, DSS Director-General, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered his immediate release and approved an initial three-million-naira compensation to support his reintegration and livelihood.

Marwana was released to his lawyer, Oghene Forgive, and expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for what he described as a humane intervention.

The Service says the compensation is part of its efforts to support persons cleared after investigations and strengthen public confidence.

The DSS adds that more than 300 million naira has been paid under the current leadership to persons cleared of allegations or affected by mistaken identity

BREAKING: Bandits who attacked Bukkuyum town, Zamfara, on Monday night met stiff resistance from security forces and suffered heavy losses.

According to local sources, scores of bandits were killed during the clash. One of the deceased is also reported to have been active on TikTok, where videos linked to him have since resurfaced following the operation.

Residents are urging authorities to sustain the ongoing offensive against armed groups in the area.

One of the Major things I was pointing out as regards the use of Sunday Igboho as security enforcer in Southwest, is because of its antecedents on violation of human rights, and ethnic profiling, but I was called a raven dog for saying the obvious.

DSS Releases, Compensates Man Wrongfully Arrested Over Alleged Boko Haram Links

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, has ordered the immediate release of a man wrongfully linked to Boko Haram terrorists after an internal investigation review panel cleared him of all allegations.

Aside from ordering the release of Nura Idris, the DSS DG approved a N3 million compensation package to assist his immediate reintegration and also pledged to support the Kaduna-born herder in rebuilding his business, a practice that has become a hallmark of the current leadership.

Security sources said Idris, a farmer and livestock rearer from Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested by a sister security agency in Suleja, Niger State, in June 2024 over alleged terrorist links before being transferred to DSS custody. A comprehensive review of his case found no evidence connecting him to terrorism, prompting the DG to order his release and compensation.

Receiving the compensation, Idris expressed gratitude to the DSS boss, saying the money would help him rebuild his life. His father, Yusuf Idris, also thanked the DG for the gesture and assured that the support would be put to good use.

Sources disclosed that in such cases, the DSS also provides medical and psychological support to wrongfully detained persons before assisting them to restart businesses or other means of livelihood as part of their reintegration.

The release forms part of an internal review exercise initiated by the DSS last year to reassess inherited and prolonged detention cases, ensuring that innocent individuals are not held unjustly. According to sources, the exercise reflects the Service’s commitment to balancing national security with respect for citizens’ rights and dignity.

The sources recalled similar interventions under the current DSS leadership, including the release of Sunday Ifedi, who was cleared of alleged links to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) after being detained since November 2021. He was released in December 2025 and awarded N10 million compensation. Plans are also underway to rebuild a restaurant in memory of his late wife, Calista, who died while in detention, as part of efforts to support the family.

Other beneficiaries include Abuja-based businesswoman Chineze Ozoadibe, Kenneth Okechukwu Nwafor, five other detainees wrongfully linked to IPOB, and Ya’u Mohammed of Yobe State, all of whom were released after investigations established their innocence and were provided financial support to aid their reintegration.

According to the sources, more than 30 wrongful detention cases have so far been reviewed, with over N300 million paid in compensation. They added that the DSS will continue to strengthen public trust by ensuring that individuals found innocent are released promptly and supported in rebuilding their lives.

TROOPS RECORD MAJOR OPERATIONAL SUCCESSES AGAINST TERRORISTS, NEUTRALISE IEDS AND DISRUPT LOGISTICS NETWORK

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have continued to sustain offensive operations against terrorist elements across the North-East theatre, recording significant successes in recent operations conducted between 16 and 19 June 2026.

On 16 June 2026, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, in conjunction with the Quick Reaction Force (QRF), responded to an intelligence report from local residents regarding the emplacement of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the Biu–Buratai Road. Acting swiftly on the information, the troops conducted a fighting patrol to the affected area, where they identified and professionally detonated five IED cylinders planted by terrorists along the route. The operation was executed successfully without any casualty, after which the troops safely returned to base.

Building on this success, troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion on 17 June 2026 engaged terrorists along the Miyanti–Ngoshe axis while withdrawing from a picketing duty in Kirawa. The troops made contact with an unconfirmed number of terrorists mounted on approximately 60 motorcycles. Although the terrorists initiated the encounter by opening fire on the troops, the gallant soldiers responded with overwhelming and sustained firepower, compelling the insurgents to retreat in disarray towards Miyanti. While terrorist casualties could not be immediately confirmed, troops recovered 817 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three motorcycles, two solar panels, 102 sachets of salt, one motorcycle tyre, two motorcycle tubes, as well as several other motorcycle spare parts.

Furthermore, on 19 June 2026, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison recorded another breakthrough following credible intelligence on terrorist logistics activities. While conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at the Brigade's checkpoint, the troops intercepted and arrested two suspected Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State West Africa Province (BHT/ISWAP) logistics suppliers identified as Mohammed Bukar, also known as "Dege", aged 35, and his apprentice, Iliyasu Abdullahi, aged 26. The suspects were apprehended in a cyan Volkswagen vehicle with registration number FGF-357-AG while conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and relief materials intended for BHT/ISWAP elements.

These successful operations reaffirm the unwavering commitment of troops of Operation HADIN KAI to denying terrorists freedom of action, disrupting their logistics networks, and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens. Accordingly, the military encourages members of the public to sustain their support by providing timely and credible information to security agencies, as such cooperation remains critical to ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

TROOPS RESCUE FOUR KIDNAP VICTIMS AS OFFENSIVE INTENSIFIES AGAINST NOTORIOUS BANDIT KINGPIN, CRIMINAL NETWORKS IN KATSINA

Troops of the Nigerian Army conducting Operation CLEAN SWEEP III have recorded another major breakthrough in ongoing counter-banditry operations in Katsina State, rescuing another four kidnapped victims during sustained offensive operations targeting the notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Muhammadu Fulani and his criminal network.

On Tuesday, 16 June 2026, troops of 17 Brigade Strike Group/Quick Response Force supported by troops of 8 Division Special Forces launched a deliberate offensive to clear terrorists' hideouts in Fafu Village along the Matazu-Musawa axis. Prior to the ground assault, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions over the area, enabling troops to accurately identify and dominate the terrorists' enclave.

Troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with overwhelming firepower. Unable to withstand the troops' aggressive offensive, the terrorists fled in disarray and abandoned their camp and captives. Subsequent exploitation of the camp led to the rescue of four abducted victims.

The rescued victims were immediately evacuated to Forward Operating Base Matazu where they were received by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General BP Koughna, who reassured them of their safety and reaffirmed the commitment of troops to restoring peace and security across the state. Sime of the victims, who sustained gunshot wounds inflicted by their abductors during captivity, received immediate medical attention and were subsequently moved to the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina for expert medical management.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted on 14 April 2026 from Sabon Sara along the Matazu-Karaduwa Road and were held in captivity alongside the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd) and his wife.

Troops remain on the trail of Kachalla Muhammadu Fulani and other criminal elements and will continue to sustain aggressive operations until all those responsible for acts of terror against innocent citizens are apprehended or neutralised. The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies remains committed to ensuring that terrorists and bandits have no safe haven.

OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORDS MAJOR SUCCESS AS HIGH-PROFILE ISWAP COMMANDERS SURRENDER UNDER SUSTAINED MILITARY PRESSURE

Operation HADIN KAI has recorded another significant success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign following the surrender of two high-profile Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders to troops on 8 June 2026. The surrendered terrorists, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, are currently in military custody and undergoing appropriate profiling and debriefing procedures.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the two individuals occupied strategic positions within the terrorist hierarchy and operated within the Mangari axis of the Lake Chad region. One of the surrendered commanders, Ismail Mohammed was a close associate of senior ISWAP Leader Baa Shuwa and possessed extensive knowledge of the group’s command structure and activities. The second individual, Abu Umar, was widely known within the terrorist network as a skilled explosives specialist with responsibilities linked to the fabrication and maintenance of vehicle borne improvised explosive devices and other combat-support equipment used by the terrorists. Interrogation further revealed that another high profile terrorist, Mohammed Khalifa, a member the ISWAP Shurah Council was neutralised during the joint operations by OPHK.

The surrender of the two commanders represents a major setback to the terrorist organisation, particularly given their experience, influence and technical expertise acquired over several years within the insurgent network. Their decision to flee and surrender further underscores the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI, complemented by precision engagements conducted with the support of Allied Partners against terrorist enclaves across the Theatre. The combined pressure from these operations continues to degrade terrorist capabilities, weaken their operational networks, and compel increasing numbers of insurgents to surrender.

This development further demonstrates the growing desperation and declining morale within terrorist ranks as relentless military pressure continues to deny them freedom of action and safe havens. It also reinforces the effectiveness of ongoing efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist leadership structures and disrupting their operational capabilities. Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to maintaining relentless pressure on all terrorist elements. The military will continue to exploit all available opportunities to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting stability to affected communities.

KWARA POLICE DISMANTLE KIDNAPPING NETWORK, ARREST SEVEN SUSPECTS, RECOVER ASSAULT RIFLE AND OTHER FIREARMS.

In a major breakthrough against kidnapping, the Kwara State Police Command has arrested seven suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and recovered firearms during a series of intelligence-led operations conducted across parts of the State.

On 28th May 2026, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, acting on credible intelligence regarding the abduction of a resident within the Agbeyangi axis of Ilorin, launched a coordinated intelligence-led operation aimed at rescuing victims and dismantling the criminal network responsible for a series of kidnapping incidents across the State.

Through investigation and strategic deployment of operational assets, the operatives arrested one Surajo Abubakar, whose involvement in the crime provided critical intelligence that significantly advanced the investigation.

Further exploitation of the intelligence gathered led to the arrest of Umar Yabani alias "Yabo," identified as the leader of the syndicate,Isah A. Sule and Umar Sani.
During the operation, one AK-47 rifle and one pump-action gun were recovered from the suspects. Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to several kidnapping incidents across Ilorin East, Edu, Ifelodun, and neighbouring communities within Kwara State.

Following the arrests, investigators intensified efforts to dismantle the remaining elements of the criminal network. Subsequent intelligence obtained from the suspects led operatives to identified locations and associates connected to the syndicate.

Consequently, on 4th June 2026, the Command carried out a follow-up intelligence-led operation in collaboration with members of the Forest Guard and Local Vigilante Groups across strategic locations within Edu and Ifelodun Local Government Areas.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three additional suspected members of the syndicate identified as Bello Alhaji Maidabo (25), Shehu Malami (23), and Riskuwa Babuga (18), who were apprehended in the forest near Tsaragi following coordinated surveillance and tactical operations.

A locally fabricated single-barrel firearm loaded with two live cartridges was recovered during the operation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the newly arrested suspects played various roles within the criminal network and are assisting investigators with valuable information aimed at rescuing victims believed to still be in captivity and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, stated that the breakthrough reflects the operational directives and strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, PSC(+), NPM, towards strengthening intelligence-led policing, dismantling criminal networks, and enhancing public safety nationwide.

The Commissioner of Police, further reassured residents of the Command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and actionable information.
