@TaitaDictionary Kurugha mnyango is misplaced nowadays by greedy uncle's.
One is supposed to rugha mnyango , if he fled with the lady without notifying the lady's parents. For so, the parents will claim, " kodilalisha mnyango mwari aba. Deghusaika na kitiri wei mwai odu ughala kio, ndechecha.

In our conversation about marriage in Kidawida/Taita, one of the most important practice was "Kurugha Mnyango" = closing the door.
After meeting a lady, and doing courtship, the next thing a man does is to visit the lady's home for this occasion which unites the two families.
Kurugha Mnyango signified two main things:
1. The lady cannot be married by any other person.
2. The two families are now formally introduced to each other. They are now bonded, awaiting Wupe - dowry negotiations.
Kurugha mnyango is one if the foremost practices of marriage in Kidawida.
How much it cost?... About Ksh 5 k to 30 k.
The naming of some places in Taita, has/had, at some point, since time immemorial, picked a pattern of "a place of" X, Y or Z, whereby XYX are things, people, incidents e.t.c.
For instance:
Ngongodinyi = a place with lots of nappier grass.
Mariwenyi = a place with (i) where milk comes is drawn (ii) where swampy water is available
I can go on and on...
- Mzwanenyi
- Mlungunyi
- Mghambonyi
Name any other.

Look at how beautiful Taita Taveta is. From our mountains to our ranches, wildlife, minerals, and fertile lands. If we invest wisely, empower local businesses, manage our resources well, and embrace development, Taita Taveta can rise into a powerful economic engine.
When I sat with Ngulamu wa Mwauki of Msepa Camps & Heritage Kenya last week, he informed me that the Wadawida/Taita's placed great honor on names (Marina) they would call each other.
These names, (not birth names) were adopted or created by two persons or families. They include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Aruvu
2. Akireti
3.Washilu
4.Akikarasa
5.Akofe
6.Akudu
7.Aindi
8.Awai
9. Ambeu
10. Achoki
He indicates that in his upcoming Kidawida book, more names and meanings will be captured. #TaitaCulture
Ndisha - Shepherding.
Almost 90% of Taita's great great grandparents had Maranu (livestock homes in Nyika) which supplemented their crops diet in the highlands (Mzinyi). Walisha (shepherds) had Mazughe (turns), some 1 week others 2.
100s of years later, the tradition lives on.

Woke up to clean this rare goat skin bag, known in Taita as Mwangeka/Kikuchu.
Can't wait for it to dry, I dip my power bank, phone, earpods then embark, enroute NBO😁
Got it from a 4 year-old Fwandi in Latika, carefully stitched by Makenzi for some appr. $ 58

Kimanga cha mbelele.
Beans + dry-smoked bananas. Boiled then smashed.
NB: There was a banana called Ndezi, which was mainly used to make Kimanga cha Mbelele.
Taita holds incredible potential for growth from its breathtaking landscapes to its rich culture and warm people. With the right investments in tourism, agriculture, and infrastructure, Taita can shine as a hub of opportunity and prosperity. WUKADIENDE
