Reliable water access is now a reality for thousands of residents in Mutituni Ward following the commissioning of the Inyooni–Kwa Onyango Weir, a transformative project that will directly and indirectly benefit over 10,000 residents. The project features a reticulation system linking two water storage tanks on either side of the weir, significantly improving access to water for domestic use.

Beyond supplying households with water, the weir has created a three-kilometer backflow stretch that supports livestock watering and crop irrigation, boosting agricultural productivity and local economic growth. This investment is empowering communities, improving livelihoods, and bringing us closer to the vision of Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.

Access to renal care at Machakos County Referral Hospital has significantly improved following the installation of new dialysis equipment at the renal unit. Previously, only a limited number of patients could access treatment, with many facing long waiting times or traveling long distances in search of specialized kidney care.

The upgraded system has expanded the hospital’s capacity to serve more patients, improved efficiency in service delivery, and strengthened the quality of dialysis services offered. Patients can now receive more timely and reliable care closer to home.

The people of Kamuthanga asked, and we delivered. Today, I officially opened the Kamuthanga Dispensary Maternity Ward in Mutituni/Ngelani Ward, bringing quality and affordable maternal healthcare services closer to the community.

The new facility is expected to serve over 5,000 residents, providing antenatal, delivery, postnatal, and other essential maternal and child health services.

This investment promotes community health through improved access, reduced infant mortality, and better mother and child well-being while bringing down the cost of treatment.

We are not just building hospitals, we are transforming communities by ensuring that their health is guaranteed.

A healthy population is the backbone of a thriving and productive county, and I remain committed to ensuring that every resident of Machakos has access to quality, affordable, and timely healthcare services.

I have inspected key medical equipment that is strengthening service delivery in our health facilities, including the 128-slice CT scanner, digital X-ray machines, ultrasound systems, ICU ventilators, and other critical diagnostic and theatre equipment.

These modern technologies are significantly improving our capacity for early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment.

I am pleased that with these investments, we are steadily reducing the need for referrals outside the county and ensuring that our people access specialized care closer to home.

I urge the national government, through the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination, to act swiftly and decisively to resolve the clashes between the two communities in Mwingi, Kitui County, which have tragically led to the loss of seven lives. Let us embrace peace, coexistence, and unity among all communities.

Education is the foundation upon which we build a brighter and more prosperous future.

That is why my administration has made deliberate and impactful investments in the Department of Education. We have built over 250 modern classrooms, employed qualified ECDE teachers, and ensured our young learners receive nutritious meals daily, with milk served twice a week. We have also provided adequate learning materials to support a conducive learning environment.

Our efforts are bearing fruit, with enrolment rising to over 47,000 learners across the county. We have further strengthened early childhood development through the expansion of daycare services, giving our children a strong and nurturing start.

In addition, over the last three years, we have disbursed more than Ksh 360 million in bursaries, supporting over 100,000 needy students across Machakos County to access and continue their education.

That is why, as the county government of Machakos, we have rolled out a comprehensive training programme for our staff, which by the end will see all of them equipped with essential skills and knowledge.

This initiative will enable them to enhance service delivery, uphold integrity, manage public resources effectively, and respond better to the needs of our people.
