The South African Police Service in Sasolburg has arrested a 52-year-old male prison warder for alleged possession of and dealing in dagga.

On Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Sasolburg police received a complaint regarding a prison warder who was allegedly found in possession of dagga and suspected of dealing in dagga, at the Sasolburg Correctional Center.

Upon arrival at the Correctional Center, police were directed to an African male wearing a Correctional Services uniform. The suspect was allegedly found in possession of and dealing in dagga on the premises. The police seized 803 ziplock bags of dagga to the street value of R8050.

The 52-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of dagga and dealing in dagga. ML

HAWKS ARREST WANTED TRAFFICKING SUSPECT:

The Hawks in the Free State have arrested 35-year-old Gregony Deck, a wanted suspect linked to allegations of human trafficking, rape and robbery.

Deck was traced to a house in Masilo, Theunissen, on Friday, 7 August, following information received by Hawks investigators and was arrested with assistance from the Tactical Response Team.

He was previously convicted of rape and released on parole in July 2025.

Deck is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER ARRESTED FOR DAGGA DEALING:

A 52-year-old correctional officer has been arrested at the Sasolburg Correctional Centre for allegedly possessing and dealing in dagga.

Police responded to a complaint on Saturday, 8 August 2026, and allegedly found the officer in possession of 803 ziplock bags of dagga, with an estimated street value of R8,050.

He is expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession and dealing in dagga.

Four suspected shoplifters were arrested by Mi7 teams in Hayfields on Friday after allegedly stealing alcohol from a store in Athlone. Subsequent police checks established that the group was wanted in connection with several other cases.

The Mi7 Control Room received a report from an armed response client in Athlone that a group had allegedly stolen an undisclosed quantity of alcohol and fled in two vehicles. Vehicle details were circulated and the Mi7 Surveillance Net later flagged the vehicles in Hayfields. The Surveillance Net uses strategically positioned cameras with Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology to identify vehicles of interest. Based on the alerts, Reaction Officers and members of the Strategic Threat Response Unit were deployed. The vehicles were tracked to a shopping centre in Hayfields where all four suspects were apprehended. A search of the vehicles uncovered numerous bottles of expensive alcohol believed to be linked to the earlier theft.

The suspects and recovered items were handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation.

ESCAPE FROM LAWFUL CUSTODY: POLICE APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE TO TRACE SUSPECT

The Ladybrand police are appealing to members of the community for assistance in tracing a suspect who escaped from lawful custody while receiving medical attention at a local hospital yesterday evening.

The escapee, Lehlohonolo Mxatula, was arrested for contravention of a Protection Order and common assault.

Anyone who may have information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact Ladybrand Detective Captain JT Ntlele on 082 466 7846 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.

Members of the public are advised not to approach or confront the suspect, but to immediately provide any information to the police.

#sapsFS [TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF DRUGS IN ZAMDELA]

Members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, Section C2, deployed in the Fezile Dabi District, arrested two suspects aged 33 and 49 for possession of drugs in Zamdela.

On 07 August 2026, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit were officially on duty in the Zamdela policing precinct when they received information from a concerned community member that a suspect who was arrested on Thursday, 30 July 2026, was allegedly continuing to sell drugs.

Members immediately proceeded to the identified house in the Angola Section, Zamdela. Upon arrival, they gained entry to the premises and found two men, one White male and one African male, allegedly selling drugs through a fence at the back of the house.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court on charges of possession of drugs. #DrugsOffTheStreets ML

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Drug Unit conducted an intensified operation in Ga-Rankuwa area on 07 August 2026, targeting criminal activities involving the possession and dealing in drugs.

During the operation, members arrested a 38-year-old South African male who was found selling dagga at Direla Shopping Complex taxi rank.

A search of the suspect resulted in the seizure of 184 zip-lock packets containing dagga, as well as an additional 1,126 kilograms of unpackaged dagga of undisclosed amount.

The suspect was placed under arrest and detained at local police station. He was charged with possession of and dealing in dagga.
