Today, @RepSchakowsky, @RepJayapal, @RepMcGovern & myself lead 55 members of Congress urging @POTUS to help protect innocent Palestinians in Gaza. We urged following of international law, food & water to Gaza, & more. No innocent Israeli or Palestinians should die. We need peace.
“Ordering a million people in Gaza to evacuate, when there’s no safe place to go, is not an effective warning... World leaders should speak up now before it is too late.”
- @cliveabaldwin, senior legal adviser
Impossible. I get @IsraeliPM wanting to go after Hamas. But international standards must apply, protection of innocents must be respected, and unrealistic demands like moving 1.1 million people in 24 hours is ridiculous. Israel will lose public support & hurt innocent people.

PLOT TWIST: The big finding? White women were MOST involved in owning enslaved Black women. In New Orleans, White women were involved in 51.95% of female-based transactions. In notaries, 42.45%. In runaway advertisements, 25.44%. The gender of enslavement was gendered. 9/N
Other Southern states quickly followed. For some reason, economists have not considered these laws in their analysis of the effect of changing marital property law. But make no mistake, enslavement was a key route to White women's economic "liberation" in the United States. 5/N
Recently, I've been working on gender and American enslavement. Inspired by @sejr_historian's brilliant work, I want to quantify the propensity of White women to be active as economic agents in the market for enslaved people. Preliminary results are in! Buckle up!! A 🧵 1/N
