“Srbija pripada Evropi, Evropa pripada Srbiji.” Words that echo even louder after yesterday’s pro-European protest in Belgrade, where citizens took to the streets to reaffirm a clear choice: democracy, rule of law and a European future. This is what Europe means—a shared commitment to values we must constantly defend and renew. Enlargement is not symbolic; it is a responsibility on both sides to build a stronger, fairer Union together.
“Bella ciao” rises in Belgrade: one accordion, then a crowd, then a protest. Today, pro-European Serbs took to the streets against a leadership that is steadily pulling the country away from Europe. This is more than dissent—it is a call to return to democratic standards, rule of law, and a shared European destiny. When a song of resistance becomes a collective voice, the message is clear. We, the European Democrats, stand with them.
On 18 April, Belgrade becomes a meeting point for those who believe in a democratic, European future for Serbia. Starting at 13:00 in Republic Square, citizens will gather before marching towards Slavija Square, sending a clear message: Europe means rule of law, freedoms, and opportunity. We stand with all those taking to the streets peacefully to defend democracy and Serbia’s European path—because these values are never negotiable.
