Meet Toutiya Ghasemi. Her parents, Ahmad Ghasemi and Gandom Kashani, are well-known fraudsters from Golestan province, Iran (my parents’ hometown). They were prosecuted multiple times for fraud before fleeing Iran overnight about seven years ago and seeking asylum in Toronto.

Before escaping, her father ran a fake real-estate presale scheme and took money from over 300 people—hundreds of thousands of dollars at the time.
